Today at the crusade a lady was cured. Says she downed a 1 litre and was as high as a kite when she came. When the man of God started praying, she immediately sobered up! The fingers on one of her hand which had previously been operated on, started working/moving.

What does it cost you to try? You have one more chance... tomorrow.Pray

@Mukiri, I do not believe in miracles. Not of the kind you suggest anyway. But thank you for trying to help just the same.

You may need to provide some more info on your 'friend' or is it 'son'?. For the new person needs to be his friend. And first contact has to be informal.

One may need to know his age, education level, and hobbies and interests.

Maybe to provide further justification for this, I posit that behavior change must be justified. That is, the pay off needs to be significant enough.

For example, is he willing to see a third person because he wants to preserve your relationship? Or because he wants to be a better person?

There may be a need to find another pay off that is 'individual'.

Pardon my persistence @Seppuku.

You raise good points. To be honest, I doubt there is individual payoff or motivation at this point. But I hope that can be found along the way. We're looking at a well-educated man out of whom alcoholism has sucked so much life it is hard to say what his hobbies are. Maybe only what they used to be.

Thank you for your response @Seppuku.

First, I need to apologize and possibly rectify a mistake I have made in my contribution on this thread.

I have implicitly undermined conventional medical practice. I have done this by insinuating that there are other options that exclude those that are established by existent medical institutions. Such a position can't be entirely true.

Having said that, I believe that orthodox approaches to such illnesses as alcohol dependence and personality disorders do not go far enough in the patients mind, patients relationships, and the patient's existential values.

I have come across several cases, and one ended in death, where what I may call existential factors were largely ignored. One reason for this maybe the reigning paradigms in scientific research.

Consequently, the patient sometimes ends up being 'dependent' on prescribed drugs most of which have significant effects on psychomotor activities and even social relations.

My personal therapy hasn't been completely drug free. I remember I nearly took to alcohol in my early days. Luckily, I did some research on most drugs and the information I acquired helped me to make better decisions.

This brings me to the gist of my argument: By identifying our 'friend's' psychological script, we can decipher how knowledge is structured and hence we can edit the script appropriately to accommodate behavior consciousness and change.

This can be done by engineering social events, use of multimedia, and conventional use of counseling. In short, the patient can undergo inception of an idea that will create individual motivation.

Then he can get into psychiatric care especially when it gets to treating withdrawal symptoms, if necessary.

Apparently, this has the effect of increasing costs.

But inception carries the advantage of increasing patient participation in healing, and is wide enough to cover other addictions that the patient may be suffering from.

So far, I can handle the inception and behavior therapy well enough and deliver him to a doctor, though the process may take several months.

But the algorithm is SMART and interactive even to you the minder.

My bad. I thought you were desperate. I pray that whatever you try works out for goodPray For if they don't I'll hope you'll live with yourself knowing there is something you could have tried but for some reason you chose not to.

Todays sermon was about addictions. Dealing with them.
We learnt that there are 3 'enemies' we must face
1. The World
2. Self
3. Satan
We learnt that 2 Tim 3:16 All word is inspired of God and is equipped to do ALL things. Be you a medic, engineer, helping someone through something... everything!
The Bible tells us to meditate on the word of God so that we may remember/know the good things meant for us. The blessings and promises etc
Satan is the author of addiction

We learnt about what what leads people to addictions Gen 3:9-15
Pride and Fear
Shame and Guilt
Blame and Anger
Loneliness and Separation
Great Loss

We learnt how to recover
1. Ps 51:5 Man is sinful and cannot liberate himself. The admission and request of help from a higher authority (God! Not those doctors/friends etc)
2. Making amend - Saying 'I'm sorry' to people you have hurt
3. Substitution John 10:10 The subsitutory death of Christ Jesus saves us/redeems us/was for the greater and better purpose of His people.

@Seppuku

There was this article sometime back in nation, of a former addict who has given his contacts at the end of the article. Ignoring the sex addicition part part, the guy may be of assistance as a former addict.

A neighbour friend of mine (me of course) may spend weeks and even months without partaking of any alcohol. Problem is when he drinks, he takes it all. And when he enjoys it with his respectable friends, he feels hang high and dry when the session concludes after 2 or 3 drinks. Is he sick? psycho? addicted? or just abnormal? Whats the solution??

What makes you not to drink?

When do you decide to drink?

How do you get back to 'not drinking'?

Hahaha! You take your conquests too seriously!

True victory is illumination, and the dancing never ends.

Sometimes I also indulge myself a bit. I particularly like the experience of 'falling into the abyss'. Some unease in the stomach, flailing hands, utter darkness. Then the events in the mind! Lol!
