Nope, if u r to do computation in terms gains over the years but considering each year separately, u will find that Njunge could have enjoyed value (NOT CASH), if he disposed off the stock, may be, 5 years ago when inflation rate, as one factor, ws lower than today or tomorrow...

May be the question should be, has the compounding effect of NMG beaten the inflation rate? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. Lets say you had 1,000 shillings in 1990 and bought 100shares of NMG at 10bob... Without taking into consideration any splits, bonuses and dividends your 100shares would be worth 35,000 shillings today at 350bob... That said, are you trying to imply that 35,000 shillings today is equivalent to 1,000 shillings in 1990??? Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16

@ kularaha and @njunge, it has always been said that over the long term, investment in stock market beats all other investments and comes only second to a business that is making profits. Though I know other stocks could have made losses over the long term, I feel emboldened to hold on to my stocks for retirement. They must find it difficult....... those who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority. -G. Massey.

My parents bought a plot in the 90's at 15k but the market value today (as per last year) was 3.8m. You had value holding 1,000 in 1990 than holding 35,000 in 2013.
