Its only competition which can bring reliable and sustainable supply..instead of dictating prices to kenya power the gvt should licence like 3 companies to buy and sell power from kengen and other sources.

@mlennyma, Kenya Power competition is on the way >>> Towards the close of the trading session today, an MP allied to the ruling Jubilee government proposed to bring a Bill that could potentially dismantle Kenya Power distribution network by allowing other players into the subsector.

I don't understand the work of the senate. Reviewing of county laws and impeachment of the president? Kenya power ni yao kweli?

I'm of the view that the whole energy sector is a den of corruption. I don't trust MP's as far as I can hang them.

But surely at this time, kenya power is the single most useless company the world has ever seen. There shall never be any vision 2030 or 30/30 as long as Kenya power exists.

So I hope that this succeeds and I will be on the path of holy communion with whoever pushes this agenda.

On the contrary, i think uhuruto are behind this motion. The fact that they denied Kenya Power the tariff increase request speaks that they want nothing than the best for the economy and their manifesto

KPLC must find the going tough once the new regime settles. I guess they may have their earnings reduced as ERC reign on them as the did to oil sector as the Kenyatta II administration implement some populist policies.

What do others think? Are the profitability levels sustainable in the long lung in the backdrop of popular view that power is way "too expensive " in Kenya?

If indeed they are serious in ending the monopoly, who would take up the challenge first?

Kenya Power Hits Back
Electricity distributor Kenya Power has stopped connecting new customers to its grid, putting on hold billions of shillings worth of
investments countrywide.
The company, which
connected more consumers on its grid in the past 10 years than it did since Independence, said a recent freeze in tariff increment plans had left it without the
money it needs to connect new customers.
