NSSF grows stake in Bamburi Cement

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has increased its stake in Bamburi Cement to enhance the fund's bid to reclaim a seat in the board of the cement firm.

Filings with the regulator indicate that the workers-owned pension provider increased its stake to 16.67 per cent as at April 11 from 14.71 per cent in September 2012 after buying 3.53 million shares currently worth Sh724 million.

Same query here since yesterday BAMB traded a huge turnover of around 600k plus shares @205.

He is Baloobhai Chatoobhai Patel Laughing out loudly ... The guy hardly ever sells his shares & has 'staying power' ... If you look at the history of some firms, he has been a shareholder for as long as I remember since they started publishing the top 10 lists. I don't know if he ever sells & must get lots of dividends. In many cases I am sure his dividends exceed what he paid for the shares 20-30 years ago!

When you look at some counters including EABL, Carbacid & BAT ... the dividends they get today equal the price of the shares as little as 11 years ago i.e. 2002 before Kibaki became president. I noticed he likes agricultural firms & compare Williamson which traded at 50 about 3-4 years ago. These days, with biological gains, the EPS is routinely over 50.

There are many like him who have been investing for years & are now billionaires. There was a time when dividend yields were 20% [when interest rates were 50%] but over time the interest rates dropped while the dividends increased!

Is Paul Wanderi Ndung'u heading the same route?

I have great respect for such people who don't fear buying assets in their personal names. I guess it comes naturally if you haven't stolen from anyone....

That's what PWN said. He buys in his own name to minimize taxes & since there is nothing to fear i.e. it is his money. I think this BC Patel may be the same guy who was a huge shareholder (but not on the board) in Pan African Insurance but sold out to Sanlam after nyammo & friends screwed it over when they stole from Kenya Finance Bank. I think after that he moved to firms with solid management only like Warren Buffett does. That is a lesson I learnt the hard way too.
