I have several friends of mine who engage in wheat farming in Narok and Uasin Gishu. Seemingly, it seems wheat farming has a lot of money, for instance, to lease a piece of land in Narok it will cost you as cheap as 3000 per year. On average, this acre of land will yield about 20-25 sacks of wheat, one going for about 3000 per bag.

So generally, you can get about 30,000 per acre of wheat every year as profit. If you decide to grow around 50 acres, you can see how much money you will have as profit after the 4 or so months that wheat takes to mature. Who else has experience in wheat farming to share with us the challenges and the opportunities?

@babachemu, Never do farming calculations on paper. Do it on the ground and get the reality. Start small to learn the ropes and then progress.I have many friends who heard the same wheat stories, tried it as "phone farmers" and the rest is history.

I have personally done chicken farming and learnt my lessons.

Good luck

wheat is largely dependent on the weather... and the market usually fluctuates the same way.. the few friends I know who have done it.. either loose money first season and make it in the next season or vis versa.. last year for example had good prices for wheat. this year mite be totally different so take time to research n think long-term..

I used to do wheat but that was 5 years ago. The real cost is in land preparation and the chemicals to kill rust, insects.
Let us hope that your land is not located near a wildbeest migration route!!! They can clear the crop in a few hours.
Go for it.
Knock hard and it will be opened. Ask and you will be answered. Seek and you shall find.
