The facility looks rundown and in a pathetic condition. No wonder the patients made a dash when they saw an escape route. The facility used to be clean and well kept on the 1980's. The cabinet nominee for health ako na kibarua.

Hehe. Seriously, how do 40 mentally ill patients escape without some form of pre-planning and organisation?

I can tell you Mathare mental security is a joke. I know a guy who used to escape every weekend and then come back. He told me it was actually harder to 'escape back in' than out.

Yenyewe their security is a joke, i've always wondered how Franjis Atiwoli makes it past the guards.

Perhaps because I never qualified. But some of my best friends have been citizens of ward 6.

But, seriously, one day DTM stopped at Mathare to make an unofficial visit. He stopped at ward 6 to chat with some of the, er, inmates.

This is how it went:

DTM: Gichana, habari yago? Mimi naitwa Moi. Wewe naitwa nani?

Inmate: Eti waitwa Moi? Pole sana mzee. Lakini subiri tu, Daktari atakutibu. Hata mimi nilipokuja hapa, nilikuwa najiita Mandela.
