I go to a church which draws most of its membership from the irritating mido crass. Of late there seems to be a competetition on who has the latest i-pad, tablet or phone. Forget that the bible reading is beamed through a projector to the numerous screens in the church, a good number use the execuse to remove their gadgets; from the latest i-pads to those wanna-be chinese made android tablets and even the ideos phones.

And then when the choir is singing, these narcissists get an opportunity to show their gadgets to everyone pretending to take photos or video clips. You should see them, some even taking a vantage position on the aisle ostensibly to take a video clip of the choir.

What happened to carrying the good old bible while going to church?

Last sunday i sat next to an old man and one of those show-offs was infront of us. The old man's micheveous smile seemed to say; "i do not know what that thing is but am sure i can buy a 1,000 of them".

Did i mention am posting this from my i-pad, which i leave in the car together with my galaxy note.

In am with you on this. Whether they do it to show off or not, it certainly distracts others.

And why the need to record while the entire service is recorded and offered on DVDs?

I hate the habit too. The churh elders or pastors should condem the act and stop anyone from doing that.
I think it should be allowed during weddings and funerals only.

And how will children carry them to school?

Churches should design better solutions. Interactivity can be coordinated, and centralized from the members gadgets.

Church has changed so much, I usually feel so uncomfortable when I am in one. The congregation no longer respect that they are in the presence of God.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

They are using the mini ipads and ipad4G for the intended purpose. This should be encouraged at all costs and the ICT committees of the churches should look into this.Churches with various branches should purchase video conferencing equipment so that their flock can enjoy the variety of sermons.

Did I mention that this adds absolutely no value to the post?
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

and you will find such gadget carrying fellows living in a one roomed house with stolen electricity and torn coloured underwears.
Always in debt and surviving on borrowed loans to keep the 'image'
Smart outside but wretched within.
It's a church service for christ's sake not a public performance.There is a difference.

Umesema kweli kabisa! It is the same reason you find those old tu-Mzees who made it a long time ago just keep quiet, line up humbly in Ekwetty while the loud punk who bought a Japanese moti on unsecured loan (maxed out salary to 1/3 rule) is behaving as if he is so rich and only frequents BBK and SCB where he whips out his expensive-looking tablet. Check the old man's accounts and you find cash and cash, not to mention his other mbrootis all over, rental property, educated kids etc. Check the punk's account and you find loan after loan and credit card payments are behind.

Glad you have noticed this too.
They don't have accounts with 'mahustlers banks'.They d rather have 5 k saved in BBK or SCB than be seen queing at Equity.smile
They'd rather be seen in top of the rage cars even though they owe kaigangio rent for months.
I wonder how people survive, glamorous life outside but shida/deni tupu nyumbani.
I get disturbed when a 'moneyed' fellow begs me money from my equity account to fuel/ repair car yet I use my feet.

WHAT! The way i see guys at weddings is what happens in churches nowadays? I must confess that its a while since i went to church (actually when i was at Campus, +7yrs ago).
But i think this happens in the .com churches, my wife hasn't told me anything like this from ACK.

So why mention this if not to brag? And why do you need the 2 gadgets that are basically 'the same', that is purpose and function-wise? This reminds me of a guy who was sitting next to me at the pub yesterday and he had placed an iphone and galaxy S4 on the bar counter, to brag of course since he never received or made any calls, just displaying his phones.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having your bible, hymns and even prayers, in digital form which you can carry on your tablet/smartphone and access anywhere including while in the church. Society and technology is changing and we should evolve too.

These days they are tweeting the sermons as they happen...and it gets awkward when two of them realizes they are in the same church and starts tweeting each other(still in church) how the pastor has touched them, how that lady in red in the praise n worship team was off-key, how the assistant pastor is boring today, etc etc...randomly, another guy at whom tweets "stop tweeting from church" and a whole discussion begins with pro n cons of tweeting from church...

Only a show off can spot a show off. Beware those that pretend to be humble, usually, they are the most conceited.
