Just looking at the list,I think we are counting fruits and Oranges and hoping to come up with something.

@Wendz,while Mutoko has her good side,its still not enough to show leadership....to mention her in the same breath as Equitys CEO or even Naikuni is a travesty. let her be mentioned in the same breath as Kasavuli,Julie Gichuru etc - as media personalities. I recall its Wangari Maathai who said (and had always epitomised this),that you need not be in government to lead. Wanagari Maathai was more useful to Kenya as a dedicated environmentalist. Paul Tergat/Tecla Lorupe are best as a sports ambassadeur's and help the nation's GDP in ways that being MPs can never do.

Leadership invariably requires some politicking to make all sides with different ideas to work together.....it requires an open mind and a willingness to compromise and see others points of view...to tolerate to certain degrees,viewpoints that we oppose. Being well know will not suffice,having a Phd in political science/economics/etc will not hack it either,leading a huge rapidly growing bank will not hack it.

So if the object of the k24 exercise is to groom a leader and thrust them into the public light,its doomed before it has started.

Djinn,

You could be right....maybe very right........Some of this Technos don't like the murky world of politics.That brings me to 'the dream team'.....Remember it???.MLOO was a pale shadow in government and so was Naikuni.You can't say the same since they went back to the far much quieter private sector..........Ya ngoso tumuachie ngoso mwenyewe......

Me say you are more confused than you know. Based on your arguement,you have eliminated everybody on the list on the basis that they are not in active politics.

You need to understand that good leaders are found everywhere,from sports,academia,pulpits to the media and business. Infact they are not found in politics as you are inferring.

If you can captain and inspire a soccer team of 11,then all you need is to transfer the inpiration to a nation of 35million. Success will be based on many other factors but the basic leadership tenets have to be provided by one person.

Obi Wan - not so fast.....one NEED NOT be active in politics but have a certain thing about them - not just popularity,academic credentials,etc. There is another post about Peter Kenneth - now HE would make a good leader. There is a school of thought that feels PLO would - I think about 36.765 million Kenyans would half the time be WTF? What did he say? KJ tried to oust Beth Mugo....with poor results (ok,lets not go into rigging but personally I think he is just a kid with NOTHING to offer and no real EMPATHY). The new Nakuru MP (I forget his name but he looks like Tyrese the singer) He comes across as level headed and probably a good 'mid fielder' to pass balls on,help defence,help strike and captain a team.

Take Caroline Mutoko from the list. Nothing personal - as a media person,it serves her stations interest to be controversial and scandalous (that whats sells headlines,gets listenership,gets ad revenue,etc). Rule out Equity's Mwangi - he see's the nation as people who need money and creates products for them - if his staff do not perform,he fires them. Now make him a president - Parliament drags its feet with a crucial bill (e.g. Finance Bill) - lets agrees that there will always be idiots at some stage in parliament - some of them will be demagogues that can marshall support to frustrate someone - what can he do?

All I am saying,its all very well to PRIVATISE the government (that is what is implied by Kenya Inc.) - to run the country like a company.....but Jesus! there are so many aspects to this - its not like privatisaing Telkom...or even letting a Game reserves into private hands....its so much MUCH more.

@Djinn

My take is that James Mwangi has been a success with equity because of his leadership and not coz he is a good banker.

Hence if you bring him to public life,he will be able to move with his personality. He may not succeed as a politician but he definitely will succeed as a leader,the same can be said for Wangari maathai,Mutoko etc.

Just whats wrong with some kenyans... confusion at its best......

they always find faults everywhere... at one time,we complain of the old guards who have ruled this country since time immemorial and put us in the miserable situation we are in... when people try to inject new blood,we claim they have no experience.... ok,mnataka tutoe wapi leaders?? We stick with the ones we have? Unless you are beneficiaries of their misrule,then you cant be telling us much to help us get out of the pit they have put us by criticizing everyone who is suggested... Please give us your list we vet?

@ wendz,

I think it's all very frustrating trying to know what Kenyans want and so not knowing what to give us the current leaders offer us crap.We grumble some more but we take it. Here is a chance to make a choice as informed Kenyans but what do we do,we spurn it. Isn't it an oddity hungry people rejecting a food offer?
