It's obvious to see the propaganda generated by Western Governments over Mugabe - The wanton greed perpetuated by colonization is really a put off for most formerly colonized countries which make a majority of the world.
Given the symbolic significance of Mugabe's actions for Africa and Latin America - the West came down on Zimbabwe as hard as it could as a lesson for other African & Latin American countries on what could happen 'if you try to take your land back'
It's absurd that these countries completely close their eyes to the injustice of having less than 3000 white farmers own all the agricultural land in Zim. These kinds of conflicts are likely to show up more and more in future as formerly subjugated people become powerful and as the power center moves from the West to developing countries unless someone comes up with a sensible alternative.

seriously, pple,is it really an issue how mugabe handled himself during an interview?

The guy is obviously taking on the west with vim n vigour but look at his country! children are dying from hunger,cholera..etc while the guy thinks the west is out to get him!

I would rather bend abit to the westerners if that will bring a little bit of prosperity...u know how it goes....u cant compete with an elepahant at pissing...

I must say mugabe was brilliant though not at his tiltillating best. The whole interview reeked of a setup esp given ananmpour surprisingly good grasp of western stereotypes.

@The General, surely all Zimbabwe's woes cannot be attributed to poor rains...how do you reclaim land back (very noble) to give people who have no clue about large scale agriculture in a way that alienates the ones who had been working on it for years and expect spectacular production?

I believe what he did was necessary but the way it was conducted eventually led to the collapse of a once thriving economy. Just because the West's vested interests in the matter are clear does not mean Mugabe is a victim of circumstances - an innocent bystander in the mix of a well oiled machine that is Big Brother, too complex to fathom - he is largely responsible for his people's woes, unless you want to say they're very happy with his rule. Progressive dictatorship like in Rwanda is ok,Mugabe's is anything but!

@mvufanisi - thanks for focusing on the issue of land - as it were, that issue was behind most of the PEV here and indeed the Mau controversy. But to put it in a different light, were we not all chagrined to see the sentence given the the delamere guy? And is it not an issue of impunity and begs for land reform (and equitable distribution)? On the 1000 acres, whats is one friggin impala to him?

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

Yes there were times,I'm sure you knew. When I bit off more than I could chew. But thru it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way. To think,I did all that - And may I say
Not in a shy way. Oh no oh no not me I did it my way. For what is a man? What has he got? If not himself Then he has nothing. To say the things,He truly feels and not the words of one who kneels. The record shows I took the blows And did it my way.
