Unless there is more than just mere convincing. But for what it's worth, may I just say that, the main ingredient that is almost always used by conmen is greed of the victims.

I can assure you they have been conned too and the figures you are quoting are peanuts to them and for such they leave to learners.The conartists move around in luxury showroom cars and wine and dine in 5 star hotels and are always coming up with new tactics.Once you listen to them,you can't avoid falling into their trap.
