Has anyone got a good condition 25/- cent coin from early Kenya or the 2/- shillings coin. I have a bundle of 100 shilling notes still in the bank bags that banks used to issue. I also have 2 moi ten shilling notes crisp and one 20 moi blue note. I have the purple 100 shillings note as well a bit used

I know they are being bought in Eastleigh, but have no idea who I'd buying them. the coins have a high content of silver. The value of their silver is higher than their denomination.

Hi Kenmac. Kindly share details of the uniqueness of the 1984 10 shillings note. Is it missing serial numbers and signatures? What is it's present condition? I would be interested based on the above.

I would recommend the following (they have to be in mint UNC condition):

- 1966 50 shillings (present value >KES 100,000)
- 1994 1,000 shillings (~KES 8,500)
- 1987 & 1988 200 shillings (~KES 15,000)
- 1988 500 shillings (~KES 15,000)
- 1996 20 shillings and 50 shillings notes

There's nothing between 1966 and 1994? Why is that?
Would you know the value for those EA coins with a hole in the middle?
Thanks.

Hi 2012,
Sorry I missed your post. There's tons of noted between 1966 and 1994. I was highlighting the individual notes I would recommend to someone who was not keen on getting the entire collection of Kenyan notes. Concentrate on acquiring multiples of these in mint condition (if you can).

Some recent Kenyan notes are surprisingly difficult to obtain. Try locating a 1997 or even a 2008 1,000 shillings note in mint condition. The ones I highlighted earlier in my shortlist are special and, will increase in value substantially in the coming years - from a collectors' point of view.

Regards and best of luck!

Folks,

Check out this catalogue for the Spink Auction on World Banknotes coming up in April. Of particular note should be the East African Currency Board notes (p87 - amazing 20 Florin note) and the Kenyan banknotes on p180. Just to give you the investment potential of collecting banknotes. The link may take some time.
