Point of correction @MoneyMonger @Mainat. Its not UBA that is looking for a buyout but Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Nigeria’s largest lender by market value. To add, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc is looking to acquire a mid size bank with a presence in KE, Tz, Ug. Only 3 mid size banks have a presence in the all the said countries
1. NIC
2. DTB (also in Burundi)
3. BOA

The only other mid size Banks with a regional presence that they could consider are:
1. CBA (in KE & Tz)
2. Fina (in KE, Ug & Rw)
3. I&M Bank (in KE, Tz, Rw, Mauritius)
4. Imperial Bank (in KE & Ug)
5. ABC (in KE & Ug)

Kigeugeu Ndegwa's have made a U-Turn again on the matter of their shareholding in NIC. They have been buying the shares from market between Oct and March. Their shareholding now stands at the maximum allowed threshold of 25% #AmaIkoKitu¿ >>> http://www.businessdailyafrica....6/-/h03qu9z/-/index.html

BOA is probably out since it is much larger ex-EAC so GTB would be buying much more including a substantial presence in West Africa.
NIC - Hmmm. The UG operation is greenfield & small.
DTB - Aga Khan to sell a well-managed, strong & fast growing flagship firm which supports other AKFED investments including NMG, TPSEA, Jubilee, etc? Not likely. Never say never!

CBA - Makes sense as it can become 'regional' but it's a price game. And one of the shareholders is now Rais.
Fina - Hmmm. Big in Rwanda.
I&M - Unlikely with the recent expansion into Rwanda. And the listing to come soon via City Trust.
Imperial - ?
ABC - ?

What about Chase?
