Let me throw some medical terminologies in your face.... juvenile rheumatoid arthritis .... postinfectious arthritis...Reactive arthritis,... something to do with recurrent throat throat infections....may complicate into heart disease...You have been advised accordingly. Ignore at the peril of your little Angel

I support this. If you have already seen the who is who in Kenya then try India. India has one of the best medical care in the world and the doctors are highly qualified and professional. Plus the costs are almost the same with here, probably even cheaper.

My brother-in-Law in suffering from Kidney failure and he has experience with the Indian medical system. He can offer advice on where to go or who to see and maybe the procedures that you may need. In addition, he can connect you with a doctor and you can share the child's symptoms and do an initial diagnosis and they can tell you the way forward.

If you are interested email me on chepkel25@gmail.com and i'll give you his number.
I wish you all the best and I sure will remember your boy in my praeyers. I have a 4 year old too so I can imagine how you are feeling.

I’d also suggest you catch the next flight to BOM Pierce so that you can have the problem diagnosed and identified. This will be the major milestone that must be done ASAP. The treatment will follow thereafter.
Time is of essence since the condition is unknown; you never know what each passing day means.

A times I find some of .KE doctors either too commercial oriented or use trial & error methods.

I pray the boy feels better soon and kick that ball like hard like Messi smile

Pole sana at Peirce,

Before jumping onto the next flight to India, try Kijabe hospital first like someone said if you havent done so already. I have had experience with the hospital when my second one was 4 weeks old and everything worked out well in the end.
Whatever you decide, all the best and quick recovery to the young one.

Try Prof. Gakuo at Menelik medical centre off Ngong Rd. If he can't figure it out, he will direct you to someone who will.

He will be well, don't despair.
His bones are still brittle and he's growing so keep hope alive.
I believe that people here have advised you well since most are parents.

So sorry.

Try a chiropractor. Link on FB Problem might actually not be on the knees. A bone reset somewhere might be causing pressure on knees.

Second thing, hope you are giving him pro-biotics. Anti-biotics also kill the friendly bacteria in the gut. Be careful with them, they might end up doing more harm than good. Also read here that they eat away teeth. Brush his teeth after the anti-biotics.

Sunshine. Give him lots. Vitamin D, Calcium=strong bones. The body 'borrows' from the bones calcium to alkanize the body. The body alkanizes after we've fed it garbage and made it acidic. Thus weak bones and osteoporosis.

And before rushing to India and conventional doctors, I'd suggest nutritionists and good acclaimed herbal doctors. Medicine doesn't heal. The body heals itself.

Asante sana for the advise. Will start on the quick wins immediately.

We were already planning to see a nutritionist. Will do so soonest.

Asante sana

Pole @Pierce, Quick recovery for the kid (Two years two months though if Birthday is 24th January 2011).
@Mukiri's advice is good.

Forgot to mention
The power of 'Touch'. Alot of our diseased people suffer even more because neither themselves nor loved ones will touch them. Please massage the poor soul as much as possible. Let those close to him touch him, where it doesn't hurt. There is alot of psychological power in just that simple thing.

We are our blood. Our blood is what we drink. People take water for granted. By water, I mean good water. Just because you boil water doesn't make it safe... infact, the very act of boiling ignites the poisonous metals causing chemical reactions. You need a good filtration system for all the water you use. Especially drinking and cooking water.

That sounds like Juvenile Rheumatoid arthritis.
If indeed it is. It can be best handled by an orthopaedic surgeon

Dear Wazuans,

My son, 2 years 4 months old has been experiencing acute pain on the knee for the last 4 months.

The pain moves from one leg to the other.

The pain dissapears for about 10 days then reccurs.

Doctors (general practitioners/paedetricians/bone specialists)have done numerous tests including Xrays,MRI's,Ultra Sound,Full Body Haemogram etc and are unable to diagnose what the problem is.
Initially he was put on a very strong dose of anti-biotics and pain killers. The pain subsided for a little while but resurfaced before the dosage was over.

As his parents we completely reduced his intake of animal protein and sugars (no snacks, no sweets etc) but the problem still persists.

It is now extremely frustrating (for us as his parents) as he is in alot of pain and cannot walk.

Anyone with ideas on a way forward!

Pole. this must truly be frustrating when a kid is in pain and he thinks you would be able to "remove" the pain and you are helpless. Before taking drastic measure like going to India, try out the local medical services available. you might realise is is easily treatable if properly diagnosed. Start with Kijabe. I've copied a relative who is in medics to check out for me too. if she comes with something helpful, i sure will get in touch. Take heart, all will be ok.

Thanks Wendz.

An update on where we are.

After collating the advise, we ended up booking an appointment with a Consultant Physician & Rheumatologist at Aga Khan.

He has prescribed varios tests shall be done tomorrow. He has also changed medication (basically to deal with the pain) that the young one will be taking as we await test results.

In my opinion there is quite some posibility it is some form of Rheumatism.(The doctor outlined about 6 possible ones in children)

It was abit scary and disheartening when doc mentioned that it could be a type which is not curable and one must await the kid to outgrow it.

Anyway, shall await test result(some will take upto 2 weeks) then see way forward.

Asanteni sana for all your advise, contacts, consolation.

Enjoy your furahi day.

@Pierce, from reading your update, at least you are closer to understanding the problem and therefore finding solutions.

I pray for the best for your son and family. He is faithful.

@Pierce, pole i took long to respond. My fault. this is what i was told and quote

..."most likely having a condition known as TRANSIENT SYNOVITIS (can google). the cure is usually pain killers. can see a rheumatologist for confirmation of diagnosis first".

I see you've already seen a doc. lets here what the diagnosis is.
