Ngukz* et al......

purported experts of 'ruthiomi'....

i have a book.... 'Ngahika Ndeenda....'

authored by......???

Ngugi wa Thiong'o na Ngugi wa Mirii....

the 'o' in Thiong'o is an 'o'

not a encapsulated 'u'..

Gikuyu has 'o'....

The 'u' in both Ngugis has a hat......

meaning it is meant to be pronounced as 'o'.....

the 'I' in Ngugi, the first and last 'i' in Mirii....

have a hat...

meaning these are pronounced as 'e'.....

If we had developed a hatless alphabet.....

their names would read...

Ngoge wa Thiong'o na Ngoge wa Merie......

Mainat*...

totally agree....

Gikuyu does not have 's'.....

that explains why the Northern Kikuyu......

say 'choes' and 'chillings'.....

I believe the language has....

'c' and 'sh'....

@ The Real Shaft

Just for further info .... The Kikuyu Alphabet:

'a-b-c-nd-e-g-h-i-î-nj-k-m-n-o-r-t-u-û-w-y'
There is no standalone D or J instead ND,NJ are used.

MB sounds like B in Bank
B sounds like F in Father.

(F and V do not exist,except in foreign words/names).

C sounds like S in Sokomjinga or SH in Shaft.

(CH,S,SH and Z do not exist,except in foreign words/names).
The letters L,Q,P and X also do not exist, hence R for L (or vice versa) in the most common pronunciation mistakes of 'Andû a Nyûmba'.

' î ' like ' a ' in Bait
' û ' like ' o ' in Boat
Other vowels just as they are pronounced in the vowel sequence a-e-i-o-u.

Recommended book for basic reading and writing: Wîrute Gûthoma

Thanks.

We need to teach our people our ruthiomi. I also do not like seeing it written incorrectly and people just have to do something to learn the correct way of doing it. It is a wonderful language.
