Has taken it in the chin since the unexpected results announcement that showed a profit dip. VWAP today is @12/- $15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

Nice buying opportunity. @deal, don't be so optimistic. The management cites competition from small millers - means they are having trouble coping. Also remember corn products had to wind up. Unga owns like 2-5% of market share...their growing turnover at 20-30% so their not having trouble...the problem is the high cost of sales which are being driven by high input costs due to high grain costs...with the opening of the Tanzania maize market hopefully Unga will have an alternative cheap source of maize.

Only 16,000 shares have been traded today. I guess someone is trying to bring down the price purposely.

Unga has always been very close to my heart. I guess its coz of the ugali that lands in my stomach. I don't know why the sudden slump? People are not buying Jogoo, Exe Jogoo is a superbrand "..I am because we are. "― Ubuntu, Umtu,

Well, the growth in turnover is NOT volumes but 'value' as you know is not good. The price per tonne of grains keeps in increasing thus to sell the same volume requires larger amounts of (costly) financing. See KK & Total as well. With the population growth in EAC, there will be no more 'cheap' sources of grains. Kenya is a net importer of wheat & rice. And a net importer of maize for the past 3 of 5 years. Not good. FUNKY wrote:Only 16,000 shares have been traded today. I guess someone is trying to bring down the price purposely. That's an oxymoron. You (or anyone else) can bid at a price higher than 12 or offer at higher than 12. 12 was the lowest possible price so 16,000 trading at 12 is a large number for a typically 'illiquid' counter. Did you put in a bid? Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

the deal wrote:Pheeew!!! The rumour mill has it that an undisclosed foreign investor is planning an assault on this stock. Due to it's small float the stock is expected to rally all the way to Sh50 according to a source who is in the know. Apparently the investor is interested in the company's huge cash reserves, the high dividend yield and low PE are also attractive Stay tuned... Unga up 10%. Last years April Fools joke at work, yet again? Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

Finally, Unga has risen to a price that makes sense vs other Industrials. It remains a major player in the food industry which will continue growing as long as the population grows. Unga's entry into new (or adjunct) lines of business including the 'breakfast' industry with Ennsvalley should help boost profitability as does the core business of Milling. The commentary mentioned huge gains from the new Wheat Mill which in conjunction with the new "Route to Consumer" has boosted its ability to supply the demand as it is demanded. To create a captive market for some of that wheat flour production, Unga said they are looking at a 'Unga' branded bread that caters to the middle-class (vs the more expensive Ennsvalley breads) in the urban areas. The move from Ennsvalley's target market (high-priced) to a more middle-class focus on products should help boost sales and demand of Unga's flours. Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett
