Hi guys,
I am currently in the middle East and, after serious consideration and talking to potential investors here, decided to set up an export link from Kenya to Iran. The three listed items are the ones with the greatest potential, with a greater bias going towards coffee since it's relatively non-perishable.

The plan, as with the coffee angle, is to go directly to the millers and acquire the coffee first hand. I don't want to deal with middle men. I will then export this coffee to Iran where it will get packaged and sold as per their standards and market.

I have found a potential investor who is willing to market the product there but he wants a sample of the product before he makes the move.

Initially, he will need Kenyan branded coffee after which the brand will be modified to suit that market.

Now my question is this, is there anybody willing to send a sample, well packed and packaged to me so that I can do a presentation? I would love to come back to Kenya and do this myself but it's not very practical and time is of the essence. The cost incurred purchasing the product and shipping it will be fully refunded. I'll need clear pictures of both the product and packaging before it is sent out, just for QC.

Thanks y'all.

NB: The middle East is ripe for Kenyan products, especially horticultural. Their economies are expanding and they have money to spare. (petrodollars)

What about payments?

Iran sanctions

In January 2012, the advocacy group United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) implemented a campaign calling on SWIFT to end all relations with Iran's banking system, including the Central Bank of Iran. UANI asserted that Iran's membership in SWIFT violated U.S. and EU financial sanctions against Iran as well as Swift's own corporate rules.[19]

Consequently, in February 2012, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee unanimously approved sanctions against SWIFT aimed at pressuring the Belgian financial telecommunications network to terminate its ties with blacklisted Iranian banks. Expelling Iranian banks from SWIFT would potentially deny Iran access to billions of dollars in revenue and spending using SWIFT but not from using IVTS. Mark Wallace, president of UANI, praised the Senate Banking Committee.[20]

Initially SWIFT denied it was acting illegally,[20] but now says "it is working with U.S. and European governments to address their concerns that its financial services are being used by Iran to avoid sanctions and conduct illicit business."[21] Targeted banks would be — amongst others — Saderat Bank of Iran, Bank Mellat, Post Bank of Iran and Sepah Bank [22] On 17 March 2012, following agreement two days earlier between all 27 member states of the Council of the European Union and the Council's subsequent ruling, SWIFT disconnected all Iranian banks from its international network that had been identified as institutions in breach of current EU sanctions and warned that even more Iranian financial institutions could be disconnected from the network.

I don't think they cut them off completely,...another oil and natural gas supply shock wouldn't be good on the global economy, Russia, China, India and other oil guzzlers from the rapidly expanding East probably wouldn't allow it and the US wouldn't want to completely corner a country like Iran. A cornered animal is very dangerous indeed; Still, whatever financial chokes they have applied will make business for our fellow here quite difficult.

A lot of the questions have already been answered. Trade between Kenya and Iran, though under the radar, is rampant. Iran badly needs the dollar inflows as much as they need tropical and temperate food products that don't grow in their sub-tropical climate. Not many countries are willing to trade with this "pariah" state and thus the ones that are, benefit greatly from such endeavours.

'Trading under the radar' is one way to lose your shirt down the line ...
