In fact excluding the once off gain from the sale of the sports complex PBT only rose by 10%.

Kenya Re is now bolting
Company will announce impressive results in 2012 due to;
--Good performance in the NSE especially shares it has significant stakes in i.e KCB,NMG,BAT which have more than doubled in value since end of financial year 2011.
---Strong premium growth
---Good interest payments in the treasury bills and bonds due to falling interest rates
A bonus issue of 1:7 will be issued and dividend will be between 40 to 45 cents per share.
Enjoy the ride as it lasts

@guru67;There is the issue of disposals and booking profits.
Insurance companies do that in their income statement.Keenly check Pan Africa results

@Ericsson you are wrong..

Pan Africa and Kenya re record their equities in a completely different way..

Pan Africa records the share price fluctuations in their income statement whether they dispose the equities or not.

Kenya re does not record share price fluctuations in their income statement... They book all NSE gains or losses in the capital section of the balance sheet...

Earnings for Kenya re are purely from insurance business and asset disposals so do not expect to see last years bull market factored in EPS!!

Kenya Re does not do the business of asset disposals, these are one off transactions. However, apart from its core business of reinsurance (insurance) it has diversified into rental income commercial blg (Anniversary towers, Reinsurance Plaza NBI, reinsurance plaza Ksm, Kenya Re towers Upper hill, etc plus Kenya Re is a commercial mortgage financier (at 14% pa fixed rate for those interested)....... etc

kenya Re has been disposing its holdings in counters like EABL and booking handsome profits.
Dividends from counters it has stakes in are also significant better than even the likes of Britak

Where did you read it was disposing EABL?? Kenya re rarely makes any share disposals and they also do not record any unrealized capital gains in income statement!

The only use for shares on its balance sheet is for dividends and for growing book value.. At least this provides stability in profitability!

@guru67;if you read EABL annual report for 2009,2010 and 2011 Kenya Re is out of the top ten list.
In the AGMs including the one for last year the MD mentioned that they have been reducing their shareholding in EABL and booking handsome gains and also buying into companies which are having better returns like KCB,NMG and Barclays.
If you look at BBK,NMG and KCB annual reports for 2011 you will see Kenya Re is on the top 10 shareholding list which is a very wise move.

Apart from all the fundamentals guys are talking about, kenyaRe's bullish run should have happened long time ago but for the elections. But I must admit Wazuans have enlightened so much. My experience tells me to sell Kenya Re after they close their books for 2012. Am sure there's a handsome dividend.

Possibility 1: DPS of 0.5 and a bonus of 1:7

Possibility 2: DPS of 0.75 - 1bob and no bonus

If neither of these materialize the share price will TANK after results announcement!!

Third option is dvdd of btn 0.60 and 0.75 without a bonus.
