Hi Guys - this is road related again smile

pls,if you have been on the Mau Summit to Eldoret section (and perhaps to Malaba)- what is the condition like? Have the road works been completed? Long diversions?

So:

Mau Summit- Timboroa
Timboroa-Burnt Forest
Burnt Forest-Eldoret
Eldoret-Malaba?

I have gone via Kericho-Kisumu-Busia-Kampala the last two times and I'm sure the Maseno-Busia potholes have grown bigger - so I'd like to revert to the Malaba-Kampala route if the roads are better now (better=diversions of no more than 15km)

Thanks!!!

Thanks

Lemme try: Naks-nyahu (~60km) not that bad,a few thugs at the subukia escarpment where a car does only 20kph. Nyahu-nyeri (~70km) bad, narrow, dangerously winding n hilly, dangerous potholes n dangerous thugs at nite, very lonely road..Nyeri-nyk (~60km) smooth lyk toto's bum, very few developing potholes, beautifully marked n no sharp corners, road wide, nice shoulderwork, very undulating terrain hence u can do 180 all the way with the bijuti. Nyk-oslo bad,too many potholes n spd bumps upto the meru junction. Info correct as at jan 2009.

Can silence be misquoted?

Nanyuki isiolo Rd is very very bad.

Remind one of what a bad road is.

Bid potholes and thus avoid it.

last week's status.

Apart from the drawbacks noted by simonkbz, the route is very scenic and with little traffic. Beautiful country.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

@ Simon: Nyahururu - Nyeri is actually ~ 100k. True dat about potholes n thugs at night - I would say its a no-no after dusk.

Ok. Bt I thought Nbi-Nyeri-Nkr are equidistant? i.e. Approx 150km apart?

@Djinn,
1.Nakuru-Nyahururu - 56 Km.Expect a few tricky potholes between Kenyatta High and Subukia and a couple of unmarked bumps at Igwamiti (Shopping centre right after Laikipia campus).

2..Nyahururu-Nyeri - 103 Kms.Road has been patched except for a few bad areas before and after Ndaragwa town.Beware of construction trucks between Mukinyai and Mweiga. If you are going to Nanyuki, you may take the far much shorter Solio ranch road. It's an all weather road which is not in bad condition.Avoid if it's raining.

3.Nyeri-Nanyuiki - 48 Kms.Nothing takes the wind out of me more than those bends between KWS staff quarters (King'ong'o) and Kiganjo. The rest is tandika ulale.

4.Nanyuki-Timau - Sections of this road are....what did i say?.Some disappeared long time ago.Drive carefully. After Timau,it is fairly good upto Saibuga (Isiolo junction).Turn and enjoy the short tarmack upto Lewa downs gate. From there it's diversions all the way past Rasugu centre.(Beware of Intex construction trucks and machineries). The rest is fair and lonely road..........Nanyuki -Isiolo - 82 Kms

Old man about town....

@simonkabz,Njunge et al,thanks so much for all the useful information and details. So it looks like a 280km stretch....I might just do the Nairobi-Nyeri-Nanyuki section rather than come through Nakuru (from Kampala). I have never been beyond Nyeri. Looking at SK metamorphosis, and recalling some discussions on roads (Kerio Valley,Kisii, etc) by SimonKabz,Sasha,Njunge - I think SK should have a travelogue section - its good to share this kind of info, esp with many roads under construction. Thanks guys - much obliged.
