Why hasn't the owner & contractor of the Kiambu building been arrested?
* Apparently the mortar used was sub-standard
Why hasn't the owner & contractor of the next door plot been arrested?
* The Kiambu Engineer claims the excavation was unlicensed

I am sure these people have POLITICAL GODFATHERS...

Both. Kenyans dont have the resources nor sufficient resources to mount rescues... but that is to be expected of most 3rd World countries...

This is kenya. If iteeri arrived 2 hours later,when do you expect the 'governmement' to step in..

A likely impossibility is always preferable to an unconvincing posibility.

This case looks similar to the flats that came down on Elgeyo Markwet road in Kilimani area. The excavation for an underground water tank weakened the foundation of the adjacent block. This resulted in a whole block of flats came tumbling down. Fortunately no one was injured.

As we complain about police arriving late at the scene and lack of equipment,we should first ask ourselves why this is happening in the first place. Why have WE KIKUYUs become so greedy. If you look at most of the collapsing buildings,those involved are all kikuyus. Why are Kikuyus killing each other? Our greed has taken us here. We should not feel bad when other people call us thieves because that is who we are. Damn thieves who will sell their mothers for a dime.

Typical Kenyan. Seeing politics in everything and that way we excuse 'small guys' who do not do their jobs or do it badly.

There are ministries,Nema,Kiambu Municipal council and even the police who are all supposed to oversee the construction industry and they do nothing! Go for them and they might just tell us who stopped them from doing their work!

@Malimingi

The building owner might not be at fault. His neighbour might be. The construction in Kilimani was being inspected by a well qualified engineer. Yet a simple oversight on the foundation conditions can cause such. Lack of knowledge.

I expect in 10 years time Kenya will have a serious crisis when it comes to professionals. Pray that you do not even become sick. Look at our city roads engineer and the recent replanning of roads within the city. Do you notice something odd?

@maliyamungu

stop generalizing & for once address the problem at hand...

in my view it is neither a tribal nor a regional issue but an institutional failure...

@VVS

Look at how the are redrawing the lanes and directional signs. They have changed everything. Are these road designs subject of change? I do not believe so. Look at the parking infront of Uchumi next to anniversary towers. This has changed from angle parking to flush parking yet the kerbs at the end still remain suited for angle parking. The only achievement here is to get a wider road for one car and to reduce the number of parkings. Why?
