What would you want to see from Online Advertising? Firms are collapsing - why?

We have recently seen the demise of Mocality, dealfish, etc and it brings questions to mind -Kenya is deemed to experience the fastest internet growth in the near future, however, are we as Kenyans not ready to embrace this internet evolution?

Or, is it the case that these companies have got it wrong? Two thought provoking questions:

1). If you were a small/mid/large business owner what would you want out of advertising online? What is a justifiable price to pay for advertising if the free model only leads to collapse?

2). As an end user, what would you most like to see or benefit from online advertising? What would encourage you to use the power of internet advertising?

I am a Kenyan based in UK and have recently joined this forum, and have been seriously impressed with the intelligent and thoughtful answers provided! In my opinion Kenya is ready for online advertising but I would love to understand the views from everyone in this forum as ultimately, that would be the real opinion!

Thanks v much in advance!

@DeeSaf - Welcome to wazua. I think you will find this to be a good place to learn about internet behaviours of Kenyans,at least I do.

What I would like to see from online advertising as an end user, apart from the constant nagging,I would like real information. Something you see at a glance and it gives you relevant information. If its a shoe, the price, size and quality. Not just adverts to get your attention but information on the go.

Sorry to be rude, but if you have been in online advertising as you seem to suggest, you know your question is redundant. Trying to separate the Kenyan online advertising scene from the UK one is a Kenyan thing. We still believe we are special.

So whatever you have been doing in the UK in terms of online advertising is exactly what needs to be done here. You should be telling us what you do in the UK. Unless you are fishing for info or want to later sell us your services which you will claim you have researched.

By the way, I'm not sorry I'm rude. I've seen too many of your kind online for many years and know exactly where you are heading with this.

Please give us ideas on how the UK model works so that we can engage you.

And welcome to wazua.

Hey,

Thanks for your comments! Unfortunately, I would love to be working within online advertising or even advertising in the UK but that is not the case. My interest in this is because Mocality was featured in the Guardian in the UK along with the whole debacle around Google breaching the use of the site. I thought at that point that Mocality was onto something big and online advertising was starting to emerge in Kenya in a big way.

My question has been raised because I have just read on Wazua today that Mocality is no more.

Kenyan at heart and I would love to return home, the tech city is inspirational and I am of hope that this will bring all the benefits with it.

So sorry, I am just being a curious Kenyan - trying to understand the dynamics of how things are changing and whether peoples perception to the internet is also changing.

I can't deny - returning back to Kenya is a dream and one that I hope can happen sooner than later. Reading about tech city is exciting as it just also proves how developed Kenya is getting and bringing with it opportunities for everyone!

Firms are collapsing....Nope......just one mismanaged company that owned dealfish and mocality. Other classified sites are doing good.
Keep it simple

Which online ventures are making money ,what are their profit margins and in what areas realestate, motor vehicles etc I think the media needs to highlight them .

Ad's need to answer questions

Advertisers need to act more like newsrooms
