What is the difference between a partner and a husband (wifey)???

Okolloh was born into a relatively poor family.[7][8] She has said that her parents sent her to a private elementary school that they could "barely afford," which "set the foundation for what ended up being my career."[8] She earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Harvard Law School in 2005.[3][6] Her father died of AIDS in 1999.[7][8] Okolloh lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with her partner and two children.[7]

Just that there is no formal marriage certificate either from the State or Church or whoever issues them. Another example is Oprah who has lived with her Partner Stedman since 1986.

Fear of being cheated on, finding a 'better' mate and divorce with a 'half' settlement. I here its common place in Sweden.

This is a term popularized by the plug to plug or socket to socket marriages. Since none can legally be termed as the husband or wife (though functionally there is always an husband and a wife) they they are safely called partners! It is now used to give come we stay arrangements some form of respectability.
