Yep, really weird this year. And with US stock indices at 5yr highs, I'm cautious. Global econ is weak & with the printing galore programs of the US Fed, ECB & BoJ in full force, I'm not drinking this coolaid punch bowl.

Gold vs Platinum price in $ courtesy of BullionVault , LBMA.

Last time the prices traded at par was during GFC... Platinum (white gold) is rarer than gold thus historically more expensive. The last time the prices tagged QE1 was unleashed and precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) rallied. Now we have open ended US QE, ECB bond buying open ended and lately BoJ flooding yens. Since Aug 2011 thru 2012 the PMs traded sideways. But with the tsunami programs for the $,€ and ¥ floods, PMs are poised to rally very soon and recouple with global equities elevation. That catch rally will be the talk this year.

Now you know the reason why am saying am gonna ride the wave. Can't control a people using currency, you use military force.

Hint: Recent mass shootings in I don't know where in America.

Aftermath: Gun control.

Net realized effect: Stick to your guns.

Dow Jones prints 14000...

Update - 3hrs later 14013 prints and that leaves 151pts to go before the pre GFC top (14164 on Oct 2007) is hit...

This is quite an interesting article from CNBC with DJIA reclaiming the 14000 handle with no fanfare from this blowhorn media house - https://www.cnbc.com/id/100427582

Back in Oct 2007 when DJIA hit 14000 it was a huge bash at CNBC - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSmtsiGjH0E

It is such kind of global market rally fanfare that gets me rushing for a shield and helmet to guard against the crash party.

Most likely equities since their elevation is money printing spree backed. Remove the CB boost and the chips lose their steam.

US, states plan civil charges against S&P over ratings - http://economictimes.ind...rticleshow/18341227.cms

Quote:
Federal and state prosecutors intend to bring civil charges against Standard & Poor's for wrongdoing in its rating of mortgage bonds prior to the 2008 financial crisis, The Wall Street Journal said on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Allegations against the McGraw-Hill Cos unit will center on the model used to rate the bonds and will be made in lawsuits to be filed as soon as this week, the newspaper said, citing the people.

A move by US officials would be the first federal enforcement action against a major credit rating agency over alleged illegal behavior tied to the financial crisis.

First Egan Jones was stopped from rating US sovereign debt and now S&P to be charged for GFC 5yrs later... d'oh!
