Airtel is a great network, one of the best in Kenya. I specifically love their internet bundles and speeds; which I consider the best when it comes to mobile ISPs.

Over the last couple of months they have been running some false adverts as below:

1. Top up via AirtelMoney and get 50% credit to call and SMS all networks.

This doesn't work for all networks - only Airtel to Airtel.

2. Top up with Sh. 100 bundles and above (using *544*PIN#) and get free internet for 7 nights

This doesn't always work. You'll often get problems accessing the free internet. When calling customer care, they'll tell you "engineers are working on it". At that same time, other Airtel internet products may be working perfectly.

3. Daily internet bundles

Don't always work either.

***

I applaud Safaricom for the fact that when they used to have unlimited internet, they would reimburse you when their systems are down.

I suggest Airtel borrows a leaf from them and starts advertising real stuff or reimbursing when unlimited internet/bonuses don't work.

As stated above, they are still one of the best when it comes to internet and call/sms rates.

the 50% bonus works on all networks, i'm currently using it. The 7days internet free internet works between 10pm & 6am, i'm on my 2nd week without any problems. I usually top up from airtel money, buy 80mb @100bob & i get the 7 days internet. The only problem with airtel is in purchasing daily renewabale bundles which takes up to 2hrs to get a confirmation sms

That’s the backbone of false advertising.

I never pick their calls. You have to call them to confirm the details of an offer NKT.

Yeah, they call. I dread when I pick up by mistake and hear “To get Dunda Tunes…”. I even saved their number so that I can cancel the calls immediately.

Try the 50% on other networks without credit. I confirmed from them officially that it doesn’t work on other networks.

7 days free internet does work; but on and off...inconsistency

Once in a while you get calls from actual human beings working for them, most of the time it is a robo-call.

You must be one of the lucky ones.

Do the little experiment and call 111 and ask them. They'll tell you that that shouldn't happen.

i once literally ran from an important meeting only to find that it was those useless airtel calls. from that day onwards, i promised my self i will NEVER EVER be coned by them. i have managed not pick a call from them since. the call to my line have reduced, guess they blacklisted me or gave up.

Yes, it works.

Just goes off unexpectedly sometimes and is a headache for some people.

It has worked for me for a long time, till the last two times it refused.

Don't get me wrong though, Airtel is the very best when it comes to anything internet.

This doesn't always work. You'll often get problems accessing the free internet. When calling customer care, they'll tell you "engineers are working on it". At that same time, other Airtel internet products may be working perfectly.

I agree and it can mainly be happening because of one thing. If you have had a chance to go through various simcards of theirs right from when they used to call themselves zain, you will realize even their access menus are different and what is funny is that some simcards from a certain year are much much faster in comparison even to those being produced this year. I have literally had this experience. Others respond promptly and immediately, while some are just plain annoying (credit munchers). This only tells you one thing, the quality control check when producing these simcards is very poor including their configuration. The irony of it all is that Safaricom are the ones amongst all that have tried to ensure that prior to release that their simcards are appropriately configured before being released into the public for sale, maybe that explains their cost in comparison. Orange have reconfigured some of their cdma lines to gsm and the performance is not as good as the gsm lines themselves, but that also depends on your connecting device and location.

I would however like to confirm to you that I am enjoying the 7 night free internet from Airtel and the speeds are really good. Am now out of downloads, I do download whole seasons, so that can give you a good idea of how it is.

Again true for the reason I have mentioned above and also their systems are poorly maintained by technical personnel am not certain of their competence

They have repented and now everything is working fine.

They are slowly becoming the best mobile network in Kenya.

I still ignore their spam calls though.
