I love this verse:

'I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength' (Philippians 4:12-13 NLT)

My advise when it comes to tough economic times is to plan yourself properly. Do not get into debt and start praying for God to get out of it.

Sometimes He'll get you out but the problem with poor planning is the fact that if you don't learn from your mistakes, you'll keep repeating them.

I wish all wazuans happy financial times in 2013

Not by power nor might, but by my Spirit... says the Lord. Zach 4:6. One might plan and plan and plan, but if its not the Lord's plan huwesmek. Moreover, God might purpose to work through your life by bringing you down (eg Moses, Joseph even Jesus etc).. but once you know that 'All things work for good for those who trust in God' Romans 8:28 you are good.

Pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit and never look down on one who's going through hardship lest it be your test, kama utamsaidia ama hutamsaidia.

Excellent response Mukiri. I totally agree.

What I can add is for people to check out Proverbs.

Many verses talking about foolishness and lack of planning...many more talking about praying after planning since God determines how the plans will work out.

The following is the general order of priority:

1. Pray
2. Plan
3. Pray for the plan
4. Implement
5. Be content

And the cycle starts again. Some of the harshest words in the bible are against foolishness and laziness.

You and planning!

I will direct you to something in the same Proverbs 'Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.' Proverbs 3:5 Yes, its good to plan.. but what is most important is to pray and trust in God, that His will may be done in your life; your plan notwithstanding.

@ akowally - I especially enjoy the no.5 - "Be content". In it I find sleep & rest amid chaos

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you - Have you ever wondered what all these things are?

Very good observation. Let us see what "things" mean? Looking at the preceeding text in ...

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away inbarns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life (or single cubit to his height)? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor wasdressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you,O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them...

So the "things" point to basic needs & wants.

But NB: That our worries should be channled at the kingdon & its righteoesness.

I think now I'll pursue contentment and appreciation. It's better to count your blessings than calculate your luck.

1 Timothy 6:6-10 ~ But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Luke 3:14 ~ And some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

Hebrews 13:5 ~ Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,"

Philippians 4:11-12 ~ Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-19 ~ Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him-for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-this is a gift of God.

Proverbs 30: 7-9 ~ "Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

1. Look for Opportunities

Prov. 20:13. ....open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

2. Invest

Luke 19:12.....A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

3. Learn to Give.

Luke 6.38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

The writer was depressed, by the futility of chasing the wind.

I prefer the book of Sirach. The writer had a more cheerful temper.

The truth can be a bitter pill to those who choose to ignore it. We all have been given opportunities, you haven't made good of yours?

When the wisest man speaks of chasing the wind and vanity,I like to stop and think about it. Kinda makes you wonder, what opportunity isn't chasing the wind?
