Target: Government

Idea: production of commemorative product(s)

Examples: commemorative coins, paintings, pins, or gifts/packages to be given to diplomatic partners.

Operation: one-off production - large volumes with mark-up on each product.

Problem: who to contact within the (federal) govt.

Feasibility: possible

The commemorative coins are exclusively the work of the government mint through the CBK. so you would have to remove them from your list.

Why dont you change your target audience to the common mwananchi. Ofcourse you would have to drastically reduce your profit margin but your audience will be much bigger and instead of a one time operation you will have people collecting the memorabilia for their own collections. Apparently the ads of US coins and stamp collecting are a big business, I think you will make more money with smaller margins but bigger turnover and repeat customers.

The downside of that approach is you'd be in the firing line of established players in the industry, who could potentially copy-cat the commemorative product.

But I agree that it's a bigger market..

Thats why you'd have to brand yourself and deliver a top of the line product that most cant easily deliver on. Think Iphone in the beginning, by the time competitors catch on you'd have cemented your status. Actually taking a class on branding right now, would be sad if someone else took this idea and you watch them prosper from it. Though as Accelrisk said, maybe the GoK doesnt allow people to make these coins? But then again, with the internet, how would they able to control who can make what?

Noted. But that's an about-turn on strategy:

Target: The people

Idea: 50 years of independence merchandise

Examples: beaded/rubber/cloth wristbands, bandanas, stickers i.e. low cost, high volume items

Operation: mass production (1 year?)

Problem: distribution & marketing costs, competitors.

Determinant; election outcomes? Design, message?

Timing?

Target market seems to be defined too broadly.

Timing: the run-up to either jamhuri/madaraka day. Election outcome should not be a factor.

Target market: mainly lower to middle class. Unless one wants to diversify on products e.g. cuff-links.

Of course, one could get creative and exploit corporates that want to make promotional products for the period.
