this goes particularly to my 800K colleagues with whom we 'own' safcom,and the wellwishers alike.

safcom wish to pay 4b as dividendends,in units of 0.1 of every share held.

the 4b could as well be used to upgrade safcom systems,expansion both in voice and data systems. data frontier is poised to witness bruising competition in the near future. safcom can easily lockout competition,if it puts its acts rightly.

these are the financing and investing programmes which safcom have to commit at the end of the day. the other option would be floating bonds or bank borrowing.

assuming it goes for the latter,there is the cost of financing ie bank interests on loan. this interest bit will be passed on to us,now as the subscribers. we may not necessarily pay higher tarrifs but we may miss out on great packages and goodies.

my two cents is,safcom could have reinvested the 4b to consolidate the business,which would nessecarily mean good quality services with high capacity and expanded business units to attract new monies from the new and emerging markets,and increased spend from existing clients from diverisified services and products on offer. this would result in higher pbt,and therefore higher returns to the investors. forfeiting the 0.1 cents this year would highly translate into better earnings in the next period and into the future.

your take.

As a memberof scon it is your right to vote. The dividends have been recommended by the directors,but are payable when declared by members by an ordinary resolution at the AGM. What you now need is to convince 50%+1 at that meeting. You have my vote.

@nahdy,
Are you mobitelea?

Anyway,I'm for the dividend too. After all we're only getting 4b out of the 15..b profit. They can reinvest the rest,float bonds or borrow from the bank.

They can float the bond and convince us to use the dividend on it.

@Chi20 you obviously didn't think much before posting this.

As a shareholder,you get to split the 4 B with 800,000 others as you put it but as a customer,you split it the 4B with13m customers.

SO to maximise your returns,you take your share of the 4B split 800K ways,then the company can borrow and the costs/inefficiencies can be split 13million ways,you net gain is higher.

I guess if you can't win with facts,you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.

@chi20 did you drop your brain just before typing this line?Lock-out competition so that safcon hang us as telkom did to us untill 2001?

Stop thinking intermittently,thinking is a continous process.
