@mukiri - this thread is for the hydrocarbon (oil & gas) multi-decade play coming to town in the EA region. At times we discuss some tips on hard minerals like rare earth and precious metals in EA. Follow the M&A deals in the oil industry that relate to EA and Africa.

As for where to commit money for future harvest, to make it easier for you rather than trying to follow the money on foreign markets wait for the GEMS market at NSE. This will give you exposure on those firms coming in to raise funds via IPO or private placement or OTC.

As for your last question, don't miss the hydrocarbon train. Life time opportunities are not plenty...

If you don't mind I would also like to be schooled on what to buy (or what you are buying) when all this comes together.

If you are in KE attend this conference - Oil & Gas Africa - The Gateway to the East African Oil & Gas Industry to be held at KICC, Nairobi - Kenya on 29 April - 01 May, 2013. Note it is not open to the public, but for business participants.

Kenyan Oil, Hot and Getting Hotter: Interview with Taipan's Maxwell Birley - http://oilprice.com/Inte...ans-Maxwell-Birley.html

Quote:
With regard to the political climate, there is an election coming up in March 2013. We’re making arrangements so that we do not have a slowdown in seismic operations during that period. The last elections in 2007 were associated with some “geographically limited” security issues, however these were located far from our areas of operation, so we are not expecting the elections to have much impact on our operations.

And the oil majors haven't yet joined the party once the commercial viability comes online. The bid fest will be fierce...

“We expect the billion
Africans— who in the past decade have already
experienced the fastest
growth the continent has
ever seen—to become the fastest two billion, and Africa’s GDP to increase from $2 trillion today to $29 trillion in today’s money by 2050,” said Charles Robertson, Renaissance’s global chief economist and
head of the emerging
market.
Mr Robertson is a lead
author of a new book titled The Fastest Billion— The Story behind Africa’s Economic Revolution, which
argues that in the next 37, years Africa’s annual GDP will be higher than the US and eurozone combined.

For now, these funds do not directly affect the economy. But once the infrastructure build up starts once the commercial flows are determined, then the funds flows will directly affect the economy. Look forward to it.

Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania Ingunn Klepsvik has cautioned that oil and oil explorations in Tanzania
could occasion conflicts as it has done in many countries across the world.
Speaking soon after signing an agreement between three universities of Tanzania,
Angola and Norway here
yesterday, the envoy said oil discoveries in most countries had led to upheavals.
