I have been fueling worth 2K at Shell petrol stations when my fuel light comes on.The fuel gauge needle usually gets to below half tank.

Now,when I fuel at Kenol Kobil worth 2K the needle goes above the half tank mark.In fact I have been able to run around for 32Kms before the needle gets to where the Shell fuel would have reached.

Is it that Shell pumps less fuel into the car or does the needle behave differently due to difference in fuel density etc?

Hmm, very strange. Is this a pattern or something you observed once? I fuel at Shell nearly all the time and they have never given me a reason to think they are cutting corners. I always fill up my tank though - mostly because it makes it easy to monitor my fuel economy.

On a few occasions I have and the needle always goes up to the same point - just above the Full mark.

One feasible way to con you like that is to doctor the pump so that it serves up less volume that it displays. You can detect that by asking them to fill up a fixed volume container. Unless of course they have a secret switch they flip when such requests are made in order to "reset" the pump.

If you really, truly want to help, don't just complain about it the media. Write to ERC [info@erc.go.ke] and give details of your suspicions. They are usually very quick to catch the crooks in the industry.

.......... or employ those funny crooked methods of guka and the goons of fueling in shilling on end of like 'put fuel ya 1,846 bob'. if the attendant looks at you badly, then the station has something down their sleeve.

well the only trully method to meusure is to use a fixed volume container because u cannot truly tell your tank balance by simply looking at the time the light comes on.To understand this i normaly fuel full tank and can drive 100km before the needles moves even 1/10 of a mm.
