I am about to enter into a bonding contract with my employer which has a clause that says i should not get married in the course of my absence (4yrs) except with the express permission of the CEO. Is it my constitutional right to be married and should i go ahead and be married, can i be sued? I may not have plans but what if?? Sad Sad Sad

its followed by

"whether or not permission to marry is granted i should complete the assignment...."

am totally confused Sad Sad Sad

Is the employer sponsoring you on a course? Then the contract should have been that you are not to change employment for a given period.

I thought so too...but it is in addition to this condition. In principle, can one put such a clause that you should not be married? Sounds ridiculous!!!!

@danas10, 4 days and counting...you seem not to have signed after all the advice....has the employer withdrawn?

Have a discussion with them about this, especially about the marriage part...it seems, uko tayari!!!!...they should only bond you for the money spent....

am not worried about the marriage thing for now so i will be signing it, but what if in future things change...the lawyers i have asked only say its one's constitutional right to marry whoever of their choice. We have married people at the workplace so i don't understand why this clause is here. those who have gone ahead were already married Sad Sad

anyway, wacha ni-sign tu. today was the deadline. i will cross the bridge when it happens.

thanks

Let me start by apologizing on behalf of the slow people of Wazua.

I acknowledge your IPO. If you promise not to show the 'dividends' in the office in the early mornings, I herein make my application.

What kind of bonding and with who? No wonder the marriage issue has been inserted. Perfectly contractual.

sign the damn thing. bonding doesnt work in Kenya even in normal circumstances.

Check out how bonding is worded in the company's human resource policies and procedures manual and confirm that your letter is no different.

Yap sign it! With your left hand, years down the line (when cupid strikes your beloved heart) you just blame the devil!
