It is the end of the year 2012 and a good time to analyze progress since jan 1.By what percentage has your portfolio grown?...what do you plan to do with the laggards and the stars?Personally,I have grown my portfolio by 50% reinvesting dividends and also capital gains. This may not sound much, but at the age of 21,I am a happy man.Happy 2013 wazuanssmile

2012 was an excellent year for my portfolio. With 100% capital gains from Uchumi reinvested in NIC rights issue plus the bonus share and getting back to KCB at 23/=. Portfolio growth comes to 150% give or take. I have only one laggard kengen which is my focus stock of the year aiming to be top 1000 individual shareholders. I plan to remain invested in NIC and KCB and plan a comeback to Uchumi via the rights issue

@Mkonomtupu...congratulations man.I guess you have been in town for a while now unlike me who started investing in late 2011.About participation on the uchumi rights issue,do you think the future of uchumi is that bright? I have always wanted to buy a huge chunk of shares of a small bank e.g nic, diamond trust or cfc stanbic...but they seem expensive...i think i need insight on growth stocks.

Congrats @Mutaga, good strategy at 21. At 21 i was at KU and NSE those days was a no go zone with 100% paper share certificates.

In 2012 my unquoted stocks and land purchases dominated proceedings and account for 70% of my holdings up from 20%. Not much activity on listed stocks.... i followed @stocksmaster strategy and i perfomed better than the market. The monkey in terms of capital gains is WTK but the dividend was too good i had to take a holiday. Land purchases was by loan (debt)secured by Sacco deposits.

The only other thing worthy talking about is opening a € account with BOA to receive billings from my consultancy services in that currency. It is the best decision i ever made....if the shilling weakens i benefit.

In 2013.... I want to purchase treasury bonds. I have not done it before but i will try.
On NSE listed stocks, my hero @stocksmaster has not said much so i will hold on what i have and add on Equity bank and NMG (for the Mwangi and Aga khan factor).

As for 2011 and 2012, majority of my funds went to stocks like Sprint Nextel Corp, Africa Oil, Afren Plc, Simba Energy Inc, Horn Petroleum, Camac, Focus Graphite Inc, Zogenix Inc, Alexza Pharmaceuticals and finally Sequenom Inc. The only stock I sold during this year is Camac with the rest maybe this year especially the Pharmaceutical stocks as I anticipate some major returns. As for the energy and mineral companies, those are long term plays and so far, I have seen my unrealized capital gains appreciate tremendously because of Africa Oil, Afren Plc and Sequenom Inc.
Energy.
