What of DVB-T2 USB sticks? Might some people prefer watching TV on their computer? Throw in other gadgets such as media streamers/game consoles/routers and you could conceivably hook up a laptop/desktop to a TV.

USB sticks almost have similar features to traditional set-top boxes...

High court postpones, asks CCK and Cofek to agree on the date and if they fail then a hearing is set for Feb, 20th.

Great. I also didn't understand the rush. Also some digital set top boxes in the market have poor audio. Sad

“We hope the lesson has been learnt. People should stop wasting money in court processes,” added Mr Mutoro who accused the Information permanent secretary of being arrogant and acting in the interest of businesses other than the public.

This is interesting, if the USB sticks are affordable and/or offer internet as well, I'd love to get one. TV on the laptop

Do you guys think that come Saturday there will be no analogue signals for Nairobi?
What FTA channels are available for the free DVBT2?

They should just do it. Kenyans never believe something until it happens.

BBI will solve it

CCk should just increase ten fold the cost of running on the analogue frequencies and let the players migrate out of their own volition - with the judiciary involved this thing will never happen, there will always be someone running to court.

Too many to list here... and last night I did re-scan on my decoder and got another 12 or so....

Digital is the way to go.

I can't understand why the big media houses are fighting to remain in the out-dated analogue system. Is it because they fear stiff competition from the new upcoming digital broadcasters? Fountain has become my favorite because they have two family-friendly movies every week-day evening starting from 10pm.

Don't worry about the timing; I watch one live and record the second one [into flash disk] to watch the following day.

NTV, KTN, CITIZEN is now only for news - I'm tired of their boring Mexican Soaps! Wakae analogue na hizo ma-soaps zao!!

And on the decoders: don't buy one because of the impending switch-off, buy it to improve your reception.
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

I don't follow your logic.

Nevertheless, I think the major media houses will be left alone in dark analogue system as, slowly but surely, Kenyans gradually discover that there are other broadcasters offering descent content for free.

Major churches are all broadcasting on digital - and you know how Kenyans love those preachers and gospel music.

Curiously, the NTV, KTN and CITIZEN have resorted to misinformation in their last-ditch efforts to remain analogue. They are spreading lies about the digital system: Ooh, sijui, the decoders cost 10k; ooh you need different decoders for different signal distributors, ooh you will be paying 3k per month to watch our programmes etc

It is sickening!!

Bottom line is that they feel cheated for spending hundreds of millions of shillings setting up transmission masts yet nowadays you cat start a TV broadcast station with 500k! Feed your signal to Signet, PANG or the new one (I think it's BAMBA) and voila; you're on air!

Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.
