so they can sell the index short?

it will be interesting to see the relationship between theFTSE NSE 25 and the real thing.

They have good charts on forexpros....the index just pierced through the 50 day SMA...after a head and shoulder pattern....sad these guys dont have donchian channels..but any breakouts of 80+day highs should be taken damn seriously...also there is not enough data to plot 100-200SMA.

Any one with mystocks charts? i dont track the NSE nowadays.

More than half a billion in turnover was traded between Bamburi and Mpesa bank today. Bamburi trades an eye popping 1,944,400 shares with a turnover of 359.7M - biggest turnover of the day followed by mpesa bank which trades 54M shares with a turnover of 271M.

Too much volume still floating around in December... Where is this cash coming from during the festive month when trading slows down. Even the $4 trillion fx market slows down in Dec...

Potential of intra institutional exchange/trade offs.

it isn't unheard of...especially considering no visible change in price..meaning it's more of a large volume per transaction compared to varying volume lots with loads of transactions... this isn't something general populace is known to do...unified consensus on selling on one price. It has to be an outside trade exchange arrangement that between buyer and seller..as in known to one another..

I thought KCB would "bottom" at 25/= this Dec. I'm dissapointed!

I was hoping it can slide to 25/- but after looking at the MSCI KE chart, it seems this short window of opportunity at 27/- is now closing Sad

Posting the chart shortly.

The overbought levels have been reset and the bollinger bands flattened to neutral. Volume is also building up. The chances of a breakout outweigh breakdown. I expect to see the likes of KCB, Mpesa bank, EABL, BAT, Equity, SCBK, ARM and Bamburi to continue stretching the 2012 highs.

Seems January will explode into a huge rally when trading desks are in full operation both locally and abroad.

Citibank analysts have
predicted that profitability of Kenyan banks could drop by
double digits next year,
weighed down by the fall in lending rates and higher costs of mobilising deposits.
The research arm of the
American-owned commercial bank projects that although
Kenyan banks will see
growth in volume of new
loans, there will be a 12 percent fall in profit after tax as net interest margins fall since higher deposit rates will persist even as the lending
rates drop considerably.

The Competition Authority has launched investigations into price fixing by banks,
petroleum companies and grain millers as it seeks to protect consumers from cartels.

Breakout on the way as 2012 high (1120) in November is surpassed. The new high is now at 1132 as the bollinger bands upper border is already bending upwards suggesting the breakout is on course. RSI is already at overbought levels at this point. The chart is still bullish. January will be very interesting if this bid pressure can be maintained.

Mid day - EABL turnover @78M but can't be seen on volume nor price spike. Just stealth smile

Update:
Day close - EABL trades 1,130,000 shares with a turnover of 294M on 41 deals. Finishing as the 2nd day mover.

Meanwhile Bamburi trades yet again starts the week on heavy share volume. 2,519,000 have traded today with a turnover of 478M on 7 deals - largest mover today. A solid base is being laid at 180 - 190 zone. Will be interesting to see it challenge 240/- all time highs set back in 2006 later next year as long as politics behaves.

So between Bamburi and EABL, traded turnover is 772M. And this is December!? So what will be the turnover in January/Feb as the top 10 bluechips are picked up again?!

BAT intraday trades 490/- as it keeps on posting new all time highs. Best ask today is 500/- for 10,000 shares. Today's trades are net foreign buys.

Kengen too is bouncing hard after over selling post exdiv. I still expect it to trade above 10.50/- in coming weeks. Still cheap from here.

MSC has reclaimed the 5/- handle. Was oversold from 6.45/- and now bouncing aiming 5.50 - 5.90/- before the next downside phase. I don't see the value being chased here with all the negative fundies baked into this counter.

2011 - bear, 2012 - bull, 2013 onwards - ??? If we do it right in March 2013 election, then we'll be set for a multi-years bull like when Obako took power in 2002

I agree but I think some of them are using it as a tactic.Once confidence on the counters goes up and the price too they exit.Is it a possibility?
Uncertainty is certain.Let go
