Hey! In everyday life an atheist and the theistic guy are not really different: Quote:You Christians, if the transmission in your Camaro explodes, are you going to use prayer to reconstruct it? No, you'll call a mechanic. When your tooth hurts, you don't assume it's possessed by demons. You look for a cavity. Basic, everyday troubleshooting.
Well, at the very worst, the atheists are just applying the same common sense, real-world troubleshooting to the God question. At the creation of the universe and in the heart of mankind, they expect to find the same physical, tangible answers they'd find inside a burnt transmission. If they're wrong about God, they're only wrong in that they've taken the tried-and-true troubleshooting we all practice one step too far.
On the other hand...
Atheists, even if you reject the idea of God completely and claim to live according only to the cold logic of the physical sciences, you all still live as if the absolute morality of some magical lawgiver were true.
No, wait. Don't go away.
When some guy hustles you out of eighty bucks in an ebay scam, you don't nod and say, "Interesting! This fellow lacks the genetic predisposition toward equitable dealing that generations of sexual selection in favor of social behavior has instilled in the rest of us! A fascinating difference!"
No, you think what that guy did was wrong. You want justice. You think he should have acted differently.
Even though there's no "wrong" molecule floating in the air and there's no "justice" element on the Periodic Table. You don't think of the swindler as just a fellow animal who happens to behave differently than you. You think he should have acted some other way, according to an invisible ideal that everybody is aware of and knows they should obey.
When that "boob at the Super Bowl" incident happened a while back, I constantly heard atheists making fun of Christians and their puritan silliness over sex. "Come on! It's just meat! We're all just mammals! Sex is natural! What are you afraid of?!?!?"
Yet, the moment you find out that while you were on vacation, your girl got drunk and slept with the entire Chicago Bears... ...Suddenly sex is something to get upset about. Suddenly it's not just meat slapping against meat. Suddenly the exclusive sexual bond between you and your girl was important, was to be protected, was almost... sacred.
Again there's this invisible rule that was supposed to be followed, that everybody was supposed to be aware of, that can't be proven by logic. Whatever it is, wherever you think it came from, you can't deny that it's there. Your own behavior would make you a liar.
Well, at the very worst, the Christians are just taking that same moral impulse and applying it to the God question. At the creation of the universe, they expect to find the same invisible hand that pushes us to be fair and loyal and kind. If they're wrong about God, they're only wrong in that they've taken that absolute morality and put a face on it, made an idol out of it. Taken it one step too far.
You think of it that way, and the amount of overlap between the two of us is actually pretty striking. Right?

[quote=hamburglar][quote=josiah33]As much as hamburglar wants us to believe he is 100% atheist some research suggests otherwise. An atheist does believe even if at a subconscious level- at least when he is confronted with the question of his own death. Quote:So, implicitly, do atheists believe in the Supernatural? Research suggests at least one instance in which this might be the case: when thinking of their own death.
Hamburglar doesn't want you to believe anything, I am 100% atheist and I don't need to convince you otherwise...I don't care what you think about me or us atheists, we know who we are and we know what we are about so whatever researches you are reading about us are just a bunch of bs...
I don't and will never believe (even it a subconcious level) when faced with the question of death...lol...When I die, i will be worm food, six foot under, I won't start believing in nonsense just because I am about to die..That's not going to happen, your research was done by a drunk person, tell that researcher to do some more research and to put the bong down...Why are you guys so afraid of death? We will all die, stop being too afraid of death...Josiah, when you and I are both dead and you are in heaven and I am burning in hell, tell that god guy that I am asking him to give you my mansion (with manicured lawns) because I don't want him to give it to techboy....techboy insulted me and I don't want him to get my heavenly mansion, he is bad, he insults people's mothers....lol Do you live in a mansion here on earth?

I love God . He gave us the choice to chose either to believe him or NOT. More so he also tell us whats in for us if we chose either . As a Christian ofcourse i wouldn't ant to see people suffer because of their luck of knowledge . @hamburglar . there's still hope for you . there's nobody who is too hardcore for God to smoothen out . after all He made you

bigbossman wrote:And what about the unreported cases of people who mocked God and never died? U see, when you pick a few cases to justify something and leave out other more cases where man mocked God and nothing happened everything becomes skewed. The same way there are those who mocked God and never dies there are those who also mocked God and died and aren't in the list . I hope that settles it . DONOT MOCK GOD !

techboy wrote:richdad wrote:@techboy what religion are you? Did you make the choice or it was dictated to you by your family who took you to church/mosque or any other place of worship?
I am a believer but I pity fellows who practice religion based on fear and mind control and emotions. They happen to be the same people going to heaven but don't want to die to get there. I am a Christian . and i Love the bible. This is a free world and it has its consequences . If people want to follow the way of @hamburglar then they are free to do so thats why we have so so so so so many religions . But i have been taught there are laws and rules that God placed so that we can obey and have fruitful lives. techboy, I don't obey and follow your god's rules and I live a very very fruitful life...I support various causes, I am in the midst of building a children's home in Kenya, I volunteer at homeless shelters on Sunday mornings with my girlfriend when your theists are being entertained by some businessman aka pastor in church, i actually go out and buy discounted food at a supermarket that I have an agreement with management to buy discounted food at (I believe feeding starving people is better than wasting time in church, but that's just me), I have helped kids around my city get into colleges by tapping my network of various almni of different colleges that I had working relationships with, so I think I live a fruitful life, don't you think? Or do you still think that hamburglar should have been aborted by my mother? lol....
Look, I have been privileged and lucky to have financial success in my life and I give back to society a lot because I understand that there are people who need help in this world.....Having money is good but being able to lift your neighbour up is even better.....So with that train of thought, I might as well use some of this money to help those who have not been as fortunate as I have been....And I don't want to be rewarded by your god for doing this, I am doing it because it's the right thing to do....So yes, my life is quite fruitful, I care, I help out where I can and I have empathy for the unfortunate people and that lifestyle has made me very very content with myself as a human being....So unless we have different interpratations of fruitful, I would like to hear how fruitful your life is just because you believe in god....

Dude, my comment about the masnions was in jest, hyperbole if you will, learn to read between the lines....I was making jokes but if it matters to you, then yes, I do own a big house, how is that information relevant?

radio wrote: @hamburglar, in brief, why do you hate washing dishes so much? Because I have never mastered the art of scrubbing sufurias and I always had to re-wash the dishes when I was growing up because I would always miss a big patch of kimbo on the bottom of the pans and my mum would make me re-do them over and over until the kimbo was gone..
Those flashbakcs give me nightmares to date and that's why I hope that this god guy does not make me wash dishes as a punishment....I have a proposition for wazua members....If god asks me to wash dishes as my punishment for mocking him, is there anybody that would volunteer to help me wash them in return for a few rounds of tuskers on my tab? I am a man of my word, anybody that volunteers to help me, the drinks are on me....lol

I don't believe in a god and I don't have ho's everyday, I don't gut my boss, spill his instestines, lol (that was kinda funny), rob banks, live a fugitives life and I don't plan on dying in ecstacy from a hail of bullets or become like the joker from batman....If anything, I live my life quite opposite from that, I help people and am involved in a lot of causes....So maybe you should re-think your reasons for believing in god...If you believe in this god just so that you don't end up with ho's everyday, lol, then you need to step back and really evaluate your life.....Do you really need a bearded man sitting in the sky to really tell you that having a lot of ho's everyday is bad for you and society? lol....Do you need a prefect to tell you not to make noise in class? I am assuming you are a grown man and know better between right and wrong, but I might also be wrong and you might be a 7 year old on your dad's computer? true or false? :)
