Check out ebay, run one of those searches that send you an email alert. Interesting stuff always comes up. There's a 5 Florin note currently up for grabs - quite a rare piece. Would be interesting to see how much it will fetch.

why are the notes being bought? coins maybe coz of gold and silver, but notes ni za nini??

History.... just like postage stamps.... by the way, the latter must have ballooned in value now that few people post letters and few postal corps print stamps any more...

Absolutely right @chiaroscuro. Also, banknotes can serve as an investment vehicle, though very illiquid of course. Personally, they are a good way to concentrate wealth as banknotes appreciate in value and supply of quality historic notes will always be limited. There is plenty of exciting history; for instance, it will be noted sometime in the future that there was a gap in banknotes issued after 2010. The most current banknotes in Kenya today are dated 16th July 2010... We can thank Banki Kuu and De La Rue for that 2-year lapse.

There is tons of information in our country's banknotes; it's just that we use them as a currency and rarely appreciate them as a form of art. From my earlier note you will see the associated "value". An uncirculated 1988 500/= note today is worth over $200. The challenge is in finding one in that condition.

Anyone with mint Kenyan gold commemorative coins? Let's talk.

what's so special with 2010 coins? these coins are in shiny shape despite being in circulation for over 2 years. what's the secret?

There's nothing between 1966 and 1994? Why is that?
