@alfa: my wife delivered in Nairobi hospital.

I'm not being unfair, but the bill was as close to the insurence cover as possible!

They say the baby needs to use this or that drug for one or two or three more days,as they observe how the bill is approaching the limit...

But the services,care,attitude,environment is good.

Private rooms are good,I could stay there as long as I want before driving home to a cold bed smile

Accompany her in the labour room and rub her back as she goes through the cycles. You'll understand why women with dignity deserve respect!

why not go for a package deal? the only catch is you have to enroll early, latest by the time kid is 5 months. at avenue they have one for 70k. it covers birth whether norml or c-section pre and post natal (all vaccination jabs etc) upto 1yr. it helps when budgetting. but if money is tight,go to mission hospitals.

@Alfa,I wish your wife a safe delivery. I can assure you that the whole process is normally full of anxiety but she will go through it. Apart from looking for a good hospital, also involve God because He is the giver of life when all is said and done.

I travelled to NBI on nov last year to be with my wife during delivery....i had consulted over and over and at last we went to MP shah hospital. I will not complain but have this feeling that the doctors will want to have the operation just to make money. After my wife was in labor for a few hours i was told that it seems the baby is not proceeding the way it should and he is getting tired. you can plan to wait or have the operation. if you wait the child will get affected by this and those....doctor terms that i dont understand anyway. So i said ok peration. it was succesful bu twhat i paid i still dont think it was worthy it. Next time will think of other hospitals and different approach. the personal doctors i dont trust them anymore.......he pocketed a whole 1000USD this is minus hospital charges, anaesthetics and paedetrician cost.

life is an endless adventure

After my wife delivered (normal) her gynae doc arrived to just see how she was doing.

In the bill,I saw a whole 40K for the gynae!!!

On the 2nd day,the paediatrician doc, told us the baby has some ambillical infection and will require some medication for another 3 days.

Total of 5 days bill came to 114K on maternity cover alone and another 15K on baby cover!!!

to get an experience of a life time, insist on being at the delievery room:-
1) u'l enjoy the experience
2) giv support to her
3) u'l know wats happening throughtout
4) u'l knw if wife is tired of pushing
5) u'l hear the heart beat machine of ur babies heart
6) if she is alone, the doc can say to her anything ( & u knw how women r,they'l just accept watever they r told),but if u r there, the doc will b fearfull & reluctant.

ps/ incase u intend to b in d room, make sure u take lots of liquids(prefarably glucose) otherwise u might experience .... for the low hearted

@murenj; our gynae confirmed what you say. He told us that 95% of pregnant women can deliver their own babies without any assistance from anybody! That's how God made it.
Only 5% get complications....90% of which can be sorted out by a mid-wife. He said he makes his money from the remaining 0.5% that need a doctor's help and the FEAR of the 99.5% who eventually deliver their babies without any problem.
That was very honest of him.
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@Mukiha and Murenj

Every woman fears being the 5% that gets complications....Am sure its only human to fear the worst....just like how we buckle up even when taking the shortest of trips..coz we might end up being an accident victim...despite some of us never having had an accident before in their lives!

It's very traumatising to even imagine having a complicated childbirth or losing a baby that could have otherwise been saved if there was a doctor/professional around...

I didn't mean to say this here. I lost a close friend two weeks ago through complications at childbirth at MP Shah. Ati the doctor who performed the CS operated and left the country immediately. When complications arose the doctor was nowhere to be consulted. Its traumatising just to think about it.

@ Leona, its very true that everyone dread to be in the 5% in case of anything. After all prevention is better that 'regre'........

i came to realise that the reason my wife was afraid of MP Shah is that through stories from her friends,a mother delivered thro CS at MP Shah and the doc by mistake stitched leaving a cotton wool inside!!!!! For few months, the same doctor had been giving her some funny diagnosis and tablets.

after many months of complications and pain on the lower abdomen, she was taken to India only for the docs to do a surgery and remove a cotton wool (pamba).

Now if u come to know the victim personally and u are an expectant mother will u go to the same hosy? .........we are just Human!!!

@leona. An obstetric ultra sound scan done at 36 weeks gestation rules out 90% of causes of complications of labour.

Hi @ All!

My wife visited the doc jana for her routine antinental visit and the doc suggested immediate admission bcoz her feet are swollen (since 4th Month),her blood preasure is very high (for the first time) she has headache & she is tense!,yes tensed.

he sent her for urine test to check traces of protain and she literally run away without the result when the doc suggested imediate admission and INDUCE her (forced labour) to save the baby.

we are going for a second opinion from another doc now and need ur advice. any doc in the house? Whats the disadvantage of inducing and what will happen if we refuse it and wait for natural labour? LEONA and other ladies,i need u!! hehehe.

My wife is against the forced labour and prefer to wait. pls advice.

Hi Alfa,

From what I know, every experience is different and sometimes normal labour does not happen. Like in my case,my 1st baby I waited for normal labour until my due date passed and nothing for a whole week,so in that case I had to be induced. 2nd baby the same only this time after being induced,no labour for long hours until I had to be operated on. And my two babies are healthy and well, nothing to be afraid of. I've heard that high blood pressure is the number one enemy of a pregnant mother and I think ua wife should seek medical attention and fast.
