@Alfa

From my experience,i would go with Mater anytime! Your wifes' buddy might have met the wrong nurse or had too much expectations...was it her first kid? But,generally.Mater is the best. You can follow up with the post natal package and the fantastic 'well baby clinic'. As for their rates,am not sure how much it is this days....so just call them and ask or passby and pick their brochures+rate card.

Second option,Marie stopes. This is their major field(reproductive health),and they handle it very well. Their rates are very friendly and they have branches covering most parts of the country.

Despite not personally knowing anyone with experience from Nairobi Womens and Coptic hospital,I hear they are equally good. so it's worth a try too.

The whole birth process is mostly psychological,so involve your wife in the decision making, and as someone said here before, dont be fooled that the more expensive the better it is....even the cheap ones deliver healthy, bright babies too! Let her be prepared, physically and psychologically....and all will be well. All the bestsmile

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't..

I have had two cs deliveries at KNH private wing. I was happy with the services, enough qualified gynos, friendly nurses and above all excellent facilities. Most complications from private and govt hospitals are referred there. It costed about 70k all inclusive (doctors both gyn and paed,cs and bed) fair i think. Normal delivery will be about half the amount

ST Marys langata is the best and pocket friendly around 35k,very professional,No unnecessary CS,but you need to book at least one month in advance.

First, have ur wife go through the check ups and make sure everything is ok... (if possible AVOID the Ultra scan: the little one will have eye problems the first couple of months..if you can avoid it the better)

Secondly, get a good gyna,I got a good one who saved me 100k!!!!,then being at South B,I would suggest you pay a visit to Nairobi South Medical Centre.. South C shopping centre... Very clean, very professional... 30k Normal and 90k CS if need be..

Lastly,,keep close during the last days.. don't forget to be there when the kid is being BORN!!!!!

Well,my daughter was born in Jan,I actually moved from Mater to Nairobi South!!!!!.... PG can be complicated a times, and doctors wish to make a kill !!

My gal had a small complication, and Mater decided to do a CS.. ... I sort a second opinion from a gyna who moved us to NS,thro Xp he used some drugs that helped her hold on for couple of months.. and finally normal delivery.. and thats how the cost was reduced..

My little one has some eye prob, and the doc told me its the Ultra.. try not to do them oftenly....

New dad; this is too close to the due date to be searching for a hospital! Where have you been the last seven months?

Nonetheless,I would recommend Kijabe Mission Hospital. They have some of the best doctors and nurses in the country and also some of the best equipment in case of emergencies.

Add to that the lowest cost. Three years ago my wife went there for a scheduled C-S. The total cost including all drugs and two pre-natal visits came to under 30k. yes less than Sh30,000!!!!!

And it only came to that because we stayed (YES BOTH OF US) private room

If there are no complications and you are a member of NHIF,it will cost you absolutely ZERO shillings staying in the general ward.

The only catch is that you must go there for pre-natal...just call them and find out.

If I was you,I would be having this discussion with the wifes Gyno. He needs to tell you the plan of delivery etc.

My wife had our kid at Nairobi Hospital, and to be honest it left a bad taste in my mouth. Blame was both to the Gyno who was soo busy with 100+ other patients and the Hosi that was unwilling to touch her,as they said they did not have the personal doctor's authority.

The delivery was eventually successful, but this was after a very uncomfortably long labour. You pay money to be comfortable during the process, and I would say it was definitely not worth the money.

Do note that mine was an Isolated case.

....and did I mention that if you are man enough they will allow you into the theatre for witness the C-S? I was chatting with my wife while they cut her open and removed the bay!!!

Hi every one!! thanks alot for usefull insights and advice

@ Mukiha - i will definately want to be there when all is happening,i mean its important to be part of the wwhole procedure and am sure it create sense of closeness with the child and the mother.

@ Lyra - as Leona said that delivary is psycological thing, ladies can sometimes become difficult if u consullt them. she is scared to death about Mater hosy,Agakhan is for trainee docs (donno where she got that) nairobi women is charity hosy she don want to go near (???) kenyatta don even talk bout it and the rest are far -

we visited the Gyno on sato and he suggested that he could make the delievary @ 30k for his services at either Nairobi hosy, agakhan ama avenue.... bed charges and other fees not included. I told him we will think bout it. Though he is a good doc,but as someone said some hospitals will not assist the lady untill the doc comes and if he is late ole wake...

@ Famooz - u a doc??

anyway

Alfa, its april, have you decided on the hospital or how it it go if it has already happened?

I mean fundamental analysis, you get me?

Fundamental analysis of a business involves analyzing its financial statements and health, its management and competitive advantages, and its competitors
