"The DVB T2 signal is now on air in Nairobi, and will soon be available in other parts of the country according to the Communications Commission of Kenya."

"Around Nairobi, the signal can be received in Ngong, Kajiado, parts of Machakos, Kiambu, Thika, parts of Muranga, and some parts of Embu. By July 2012, the DVB T2 digital TV signal would be available in 70% of the country starting with Mombasa and Kisumu."

"China Central Television (CCTV) Africa, a Chinese owned broadcaster chose Nairobi to be the base of its first ever news production centre outside China and has since last year been recruiting local talent to join its team. It started broadcasting in January from the capital, Nairobi amid dim media coverage. Some of the local talent that have been lured there include prominent names like Mark Maasai, Beatrice Marshall, Peninah Karibe, Robert Soi and Emmanuel Talam."

"Already 11 channels, including broadcasters such as Nation Media Group, KTN and Kiss TV are on the Signet platform. The other licensed digital signal distribution firm, China’s Pan Africa Network Group, is yet to roll out its network."

That CCTV Africa has been broadcasting since Jan. On analogue or DVB T2 or Satellite?

i dnt think it will be profitable for them to import those digital signal ready tv sets . those set-top boxes go for 5k

GoTV decoder uses DVB-T2 technology actually running on KBC infrastructure.

The flip side of this is that you cannot access FTA channels without paying the monthly subscription

Best thing would be to separate the TV and the receiver.. hence the set top boxes. That way you can use whatever tech is in play without worrying about replacing the (more expensive TV).

News:

If you are living in Nairobi, analogue signals will be terminated in Dec 31 2012. You therefore need to purchase a DVB T2 decoder - If you want to continue watching free tv on Jan 1st 2013.

Again, this is Nairobi only.

Currently, I don't think our market has TVs that are DVB capable. Samsung is planning one with integrated decoder Satellite


Correction, the Samsung Smart TV is DVB certified. Costs a pretty penny though....
