At least that is how I was measured and I never attended those those numerous baby schools, nursery, never repeated any class, pass-over class 3, never had a running nose, never wore a sweater, was position one entire my schooling life, never niniod at form 2 ,never tarmacked, never got bullied, never said "me my mother/dad..." while storying, never fought a girl ,never arrogant, never ate ceralac... I joined class one quite mature and straight thinking. You've been position one all your life? Boss, you have my respect. So when is the right form/class/age to ninio? I think there is a lot of guessing here. You might want the advice of a professional, a knowledgeable teacher and/or child psychologist after observing your young one and home environment ...what do you expect he went to school when he had a beard. possunt quia posse videntur
Its futile to take a 2 yr old to school and expect much learning to happen. Same for a 3yr old. Whatever a 3 year old takes to learn in 1 year, a 5yr old will learn in less than a term. I think its a waste of time and resources taking a child younger than 4yrs to school. By the way, the age at which one starts formal education has no correlation with the final outcome at form 4 and beyond. In my opinion, I will relax, ensure the child is in an enviroment where structured play is the main activity and only begin numbers and letters after 4yrs. If you ask child educators, a child below five yrs is supposed to be introduced to the age appropriate class not to a class based on some 'exam'. All things held constant and with just a little help, a five yr old will catch up pretty fast with another five year old who started going to school at 3 yrs. In Finland, you start school at 7yrs http://www.businessinsid...ion-school-2011-12?op=1
you can as well say that whatever a 5year old takes to learn in a term a ten year old can learn in a day - anyway the schooling system has changed alot especially in urban areas - you might find that when you take your 4 year old to start learning number the kid will be placed in the same class with 2 and 3 year olds, which might drag the kid because the milestones are different at that age. it's your decision when your kid goes to school but just be careful and keep track of the schooling system.

The best time to take a kid to school is when the kid is ready and not you the parent. Some kids are able to learn and take responsibilty faster than others, learn your child and be your own judge. Never compare your kid with others, they may be faster, they maybe slower take your child at his own pase.
when i took my son to school he was 3 and a half but he joined in third term and the following year he had to stay the same class. I realised that some kids would come to school and pee and poop on themself and they are laughed at the whole day.....imagine what that will do to your small kid,he will definately not want to go to school again.
In as much as the teachers are there, kids will always be kids and the teachers may not always protect your child no matter how good the school is.....so bottom line, first makes sure child knows the basics and when he is ready, take to school.

All depends on your kid..some can go earlier and cope other will have problems. I used to stay near a school and my boy wanted to go school at early age. There was no pressure of the distance and a good part of the time spent was sleeping and reciting the alphabets He liked and was going on well until i moved to class one in a a good public school. For two years he performed badly and actually was hating school. And the excuse the teachers would give is the age and big class. Had to move him to a private school and performance has improved and he has changed his attitude towards school. I took the sister the right age (3 years) baby school and she is full of confidence and she has not had issues with other kids and teachers.

Sparta or Athens? Sparta for me. But one should measure time not in years, but on relationship, objective, and capacities.

You have said that one thing you used to do is to come top of your class, and that you were a straight thinker. How did you get to be a straight thinker?

Listen to Sir Ken Robinson speaking on Education: Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity? http://www.youtube.com/w...wbtY&feature=relmfu
Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution! http://www.youtube.com/w...3U_I&feature=relmfu
Also, if you can, get a film called "Waiting for Superman (2010)" about the education system in the US. "A 3-year old is not half a 6-year old. He/she is a 3-year old." Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.
