Below is the roll call of the disgraced counters 5yrs later...

Drums rolling and strobe lights for effect:

1. Access Kenya (ACCS)
2. BOC Gases (BOC)
3. CFC - Note: spinned off its insurance arm
4. EA cables (CABL)
5. EA portland cement (PORT)
6. Eveready (EVRD)
7. Express Kenya (XPRS)
8. Kengen (KEGN)
9. Kenya Airways (KQ)
10. National bank (NBK)
11. Olympia Capital (OCH)
12. Sameer Africa (FIRE)
13. Standard Group (SGL)
14. Total Kenya (TOTL)

If one had invested long term in the above counters without averaging down, that equity portfolio would still be in the red 5yrs later! So how long term is long term?

This is why unit trusts/mutual funds will never disclose what they hold in their portfolios... The pandora box has to be kept as far away from the limelight as possible lest redemptions bankrupt these safe 'investment' vehicles...

Mumias, A foreseeable complete crash? Is the company winding up?

KQ can now only go up, after the retrenchments and huge loss, they've hit rock bottom.

I don't have the data but has the list & the above 3 stocks been adjusted for splits, bonuses & extra-ordinary dividends, if any?

I think C&G had a bonus. HFCK had a Rights Issue. I don't have the data. Of course, if someone without the requisite data for KenolKobil may assume it is a laggard but there was a 10:1 split somewhere...

Splits & bonuses were factored in. @murchr those 3 that you mention are not part of the line up.

Seeing EA Cables up there reminds me of this stockskenya pundit who bought some EA Cables at Ksh900 (Ksh90 in today's price equivalent) in early 2007 and then came in here crowing about it...

One thing this market has taught me is that its almost always best to go defensive. Stick to beer, tobacco, newspapers, big banks, foodstuffs and basic consumer goods. Never heard of EABL, NMG, BAT or BBK in loss territory.
Life is short. Live passionately.
