Of course it would work....But first they need to come up with kikuyu names for P/L, balance sheet, p/e ratio, social media...

ha! that will never happen.

Judging from the new fanatical following the vernacular stations have, I think it would work but should not be business only.

It will happen and sooner than you expect. This people have enough cash to experiment and fail. Who ever thought SK Macharia's radio stations would be leading in swahili and all vernaculars across the country? This one is very doable especially considering that Kikuyu radio stations have the highest ROI amongst vernacular stations.

BBI will solve it

I always find journalists from the major stations recycling and begging for any business story available.

kenya hakuna business news, people love politics and most of the business people are not straight, theus they never want to share or have the biasharas featured

People have been forced to watch politics day in day out. The present day Tv stations do very poor business news (It saddened me last night when one woman on citizen weekend was doing consumer watch. The idea was to compare the price of OMO in different retail giants, the price was 120/- in all of them but it took her more than ten minutes to show that.)

Features on Agribusiness, education on taxation and real life stories, etc would be a big catch.

Entertainment section...show business themed movies and music. Lets know how much Nonini makes in a night and how Eric Omondi is charging to entertain the president in National occations. smile

For the news, show more than the ten minutes analysis of NSE. Feature sports and how much people make.

Online opportunities and best rewarding education courses and institutions offering them.

We need to learn which is the best car model to buy between Audi A4, Toyota Premio and BMW 318 in terms of economic value smile

It would not be a straight sell but with time (Less than one year of consistency) the population would get on board and switch on.

Best part is that you do not need that large number of royal viewers (At par with Kiss Tv is OK). Considering that it will only attract people with real interest, ad sales would be a HOT cake.

Keep it simple

What happened to CNBC? That should be a good start before going vernacular. Have English & Kiswahili. Your market at some point could be the entire East African Region.

I think the other way round would be best. Start vernacular, then people in mashinani would now figure out what this kind of TV is all about.

Sell this idea to SK, I'm surprised nobody has. And now that you've put it here, see the idea being implemented!

Biz news is big and all media stations have notice. KBC, KTN, K24, NTV, Citizen all have a biz section weekdays afternoon, a biz news after 9PM news all weekdays (including KASS, QFM, KISS) and atleast one more biz program on prime times. Newspapers (Business Daily) and Magazines have also been rolled out in recent years.
Only problem is QUALITY (distortion, misinformation). Eg. For the last one year KTNs Live NSE info strip shows TPS Serena trading at Ksh. 70, even today I saw Safaricom at 2.70 WOW
Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

also add salaams in the mix Kenyans love kusalimiana hewani very much!
on a serious note its doable, if we have a whole riverwood feeding off Kikuyu language know that it can be done. Actually initially Rose Kimotho wanted to start a Kikuyu TV don't know where she took a detour. But a mix of language English and Swahili to attract the young generation and pass the culture.
Africa belongs to Africans.
