@JK,

Some of the prices found in AutoTrader seem absolutely ridiculous.Old man is a fan of the S-Jagi-uwa and it's unbelieable that there are quite a good number at sub 5K pounds (Take a look at this one at less than 3K).....How much then would it take to land it here?....I feel like spoiling ma'self.smile

But the catch is KRA changed the regime of valuing cars,...so they will probably refer to a possible CMC price tag when new (and not the 2995 pounds), knock off depreciation depending on year of manufacture, classify it as a luxury vehicle and slap the ..is it 114% tax on the valuation??
Anyway, something like that. At the end of it all you would probably end up paying 5+ million.
I stand corrected.

thats a fit rax doesn't come cheap, while still in the UK expect to pay the buy price after doing a vehicle check detailing any encumbrances on the car this service costs £30 per check, then you have port drlivery charges depending on where the seller of the car is located it may cost as low as 100 quid and upwards of 500 quid, then you have JEVIC inspection which costs 135 quid + VAT, then we have the shipping charges which starts at 730 quid for ro ro. then you have to pay the guy who will do all this his cut which is normaly 10% of the cars value or a fixed reserve price when it lands in mombasa expect to pay taxes which will be between 1.152m and 1.320m for that car model, then add an extra 50k for clearing agent fees and port charges after that u can go pick your toy or have it delivered at a cost

@Mawinder,
The MG is in the works for fun.......While at it,the MG will require a nice leather upholstery make-up.....if you know a master upholstery craftsman in Nairobi,Nakuru,Eldie or Kisum Citi,si usaidie Guka.

@vky - Good info there...
@ Njung'e -- there are also other things to check... With these tough times people are taking short cuts and being a little economical with the truth.

e.g.
- budget tyres should prompt you to check if the seller/previous owner was being economical with servicing (but not always)
- avoid saying you are exporting the car while making enquiries as they may only be too happy to lie knowing that once the car is out of the country you are not likely to return it should it develop any issues
- etc..

But with all that, Jaguars do not hold their value well in UK.... So it could be a bargain.
I have had a few order for jags to Kenya

@ Guka! Fantastic ride for an old man; in old age, use the big 4X4's only when using the services of a driver.

@ JK: You have been in this industry for long; how reliable (quality wise) are the UK cars? Been toying with an idea of Jeep (G Cherokee), X5, ML320 or Prado L5 invincible. I am not a Japanese person as such but the Prado's 8 seat capacity is tempting. Still searching within myself and will decide at the appropriate time next year (as I retire)

If I were you, I would stay away from the Jag S-Type....Don't get me wrong, the car is a gem, comes with all the bells and whistles of a luxury vehicle but the mechanical issues are a dime a dozen...Transmission on S-Types are guaranteed to blow once the car gets around 75k miles and the shocks wear out so miserably after a while you feel like you are riding in a Datsun 160J.

I had one of those, was great when it was new but as soon as the miles start piling up, it gets really temperamental and things really start breaking down....Plus the parts can be very prohibitive, unless you are brave enough to take it to a regular mechanic and not a Jag dealer which I don't know if there is in Kenya....They also don't hold their value very well liek somebody said on this thread....

With that said, I find it ironic that I say all this but would definitely still consider buying another one down the road, especially the 4.0L which has a ton of power to compliment the good looks...Nice car, beautiful look but prone to mechanical problems and they are many on this car, trust me.....

BUT, if you are able to, get one with all white interior, that thing looks regal, you won't be mocked for periodically thinking that you are riding in a rolls.....The white interior when kept clean is really gorgeous, a real panty dropper, lol...The Jag is fantastic though if you want luxury and not neccessarily top notch engineering ala Benz 500 or BMW 750 IL....
