@ mtu biz I understand that consistency is really crucial. Where I live,you can get a 2M at 40 bob whether there is a jam,rain,fuel goes up or down ... and all the other excuses they give. But when it is off peak,I will take a mat for 20 bob and when peak I will take for 40 bob thus I think it is better to take the smart ones at peak and the other ones off peak. I understand nowadays there is a new meaning for off peak esp. for matatus on Thika,Ngong and Langata Road. Peak means any time there are more than ten people on a stage.... That's why we all really need these Smart Buses When we pray in praise to God,he makes a difference in our lives. JOIN MY FREE MINI-COURSE FOR WRITERS. CLICK HERE

As i said on a previous post,this is a great idea whose time has come sort some of the mess on our public transport. The issue of cards being identical should be solved by treating those cards as legal tender. The growth of the smart buses' coverage will also enable fare 'portability' when transferring from one bus to another to get to your destination. The saving and convenience will be enormous. The faster commuters embrace this idea,the better for everyone but the damn traffic cop n mungiki. When i see my purple,you see it not. when i see my purple, you see it not!

@Jay R
The traffic cop wont harvest much on this one. remember the 'black box'? the conductor doesnt handle the money either. The mungiki wont like it much but because this venture has high powered fellas behind it,the crack down by GSU's at the bus-stops wont let mungiki interfere with the buses. just the same way they can not eliminate the citi hoppas. And even if they stopped the busses from using the designated bus-stop,the buses can be allocated another place to operate from and as long as they have commutor's backing them,it should work. I understand the matatus in some routes where these buses operate have reduced their fare charges by as much as 30%.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

Yep. Mungiki will not take this lying down. A few petrol bombs and a handfull of swift moving youths employing suprise attacks... Burning buses.....panic.... Even GSU will be shooting at their own shadows.....

I paid 50 bob from kitengela to town using the bus. Previously,u would part with atleast 80 bob offpeak en 100 bob peak using matatus. Smartbus,the way to go! I jus hope they maintain the gud customer service... “Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.” "

Route Number 110 KITENGELA Route Number 125/126 KISERIAN/RONGAI Route Number 111 NGONG Fleet Facts SmartBus has been launched with about 15 buses in its fleet. The fleet size is to be scaled up to 300 buses. The ultra-modern design and broad doors of the Smartbus allow passengers to board and alight quickly and easily. Sound-absorbing ply used for flooring as well as the thick glass- wool insulation on roof sides reduces noise,vibration and heat inside the passenger saloon. The anti-vandalism plastic seats have a longer life and provide just the right seating comfort for travel within the city. All seats are fitted with convenient handholds. Grab handles have also been provided for all the standees in the bus. The wide aisle area allows for much more standing room. The imported,special anti-skid vinyl flooring is hard anodized to endure sustained wear-and-tear. Behind the gardens...Behind the wall...Under the tree (Including: Red...Dark Blue...Yellow) Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

I agree with JayR. It is an idea whose time has come and the earlier we embrace it the better. We Kenyans need to appreciate the importance of living in an organized society. The smart card idea is one clear step that can be used to rid Nairobi of the jams and keep this city moving. If you want to know how,just read JayR's 1st post on this topic. I've had the opportunity to be in the US,UK and Germany as well as Korea,China and Hongkong on business trips and the organization you see in their city buses,all of which use smart cards is just so admirable. I know change has to be resisted but look at their website http://www.smartbus-kenya.com and you really learn alot of new things. Change is dawning on us and we'd better take it to make our City match the others in the world. It reminds me of Mash Bus which has introduced an Online Booking System,http://www.emanamba.com (only for those who did not know). Quite an excellent service and the other day I was so glad to book my Mash ticket in the house (Also thanks to Safcom Internet) and be picked up in South C (next to the house) and there I was,safely driven to Mombasa. Now you see that,Internet in the house,get ticket easily and within the city,use smart card to travel. Why can't such solutions eradicate unnecessary traffic in this city and we keep Nairobi moving and moreso,Kenya a better country? salaams

The law governing passenger service has not been amended to accommodate standing passengers. All the same the best of luck

Whatever prohibits passengers from standing in Nai's city buses should be done away with. In most major cities,passengers do stand,enabling a larger number of commuters per bus. Nairobi as a city,should be run as well as have systems and regulations that befit and enhance a metropolis' dynamism. When i see my purple,you see it not. when i see my purple, you see it not!

@Minna, I have just checked out the eManamba.com site thanks to your post. Seems fairly easy to use. Have you had any issues with it,is it reliable to book that way?I really think its the way to go. bird_man,on the online booking at mash,
I've used it only 2 time but no bad experience. 1st time was at Mash. A clerk showed me how to do it from my phone.
The 2nd time,I did it myself from home on bambanet and since South C is closer to my place,I boarded there.
I liked it coz I could choose the seats...
Thanks.
