Was just about to ask the same what about MPs being in charge of CDFs the main development vehicles?

If you guys can recall CDF is a recent development, an invention of the last parliament.

It came after MPs complained that we are bothering them with petty demands for funds thus straining the MPs finances.

This is coming to an end with the new katiba. Funds for dvpt will be handled by county govts not CDF committees.

Now I understand why people can't understand the difference between Member of National Assembly, Senator(both of which make up parliament) and governor!

It's simply because even the most educated never understood the role of an MP. Thus the question 'Ametufanyia nini?'.

Then an Mps role CURRENTLY HAS to include include initiating & overseeing development projects in his constituency.I however agree thats not his main role!

Which is wrong! in swahili he/she is called Mjumbe... i.e. a delegate someone who takes your message to the August house. Mps are not leaders nor are they supposed to be managers, they are supposed to be law makers. He/she is supposed to be camped in parliament doing his job (a member of parliament or a National Assembly representative) At what time will he/she be managing projects? in the new constitution those local guys will do this work. We have expected too much from them no wonder we are disappointed.

@ Lolest......I agree with you but at the moment we don't have County govts. Besides most of these projects being undertaken are pledges madeby Mpigs when they were campaigning for votes. Its not his main role but he has to honour it. There's no Law that prohibits an Mpig from overseeing devpt initiatives in his constituency.

@sitaki.kujulikana, am not joking. What in your opinion is the role of Parliament and Members of Parliament?

Honestly, I thought you were joking - I have never come across the laid down role of an mp, but in my opinion the current role of an mp is representation of his constituency in parliament plus spearhead, initiate, lobby and manage development projects and the well being of his constituents.

Then the mp will grow fat and the constituent ever thin.

The politician must play the role of making sure the citizen's desires are met, and in the course of it the politician is paid.

So now all can grow fat.

Maybe what Sonko is doing is both necessary and good. But is this all he is intending to do?

I maybe missing a point, but what else is required of a current mp, if he represents the constituents in parliament, caters for the well being and pushes through projects beneficial to the same people.

how will the above lead to the mp growing "fat" and the constituents growing "thin"

If the politician is relevant and good by being benevolent then he must make sure his constituents need his benevolence.

And because he gives much, he'll expect to acquire much. He'll turn to corruption and do his best to keep the status quo.

if all Mpigs could serve their employers(read wanjiku) the best way they can... it would be a wonderful country to live in.

My opinion, largely there are four categories of leaders:

Mr Clean- who champions and supports the welfare of the people
Mr Not clean-who champions and supports the welfare of the people
Mr Not clean- who doesn't champion and doesn't support the welfare of the people
Mr Clean- who doesn't champion doesn't supports the welfare of the people

Case Study Kenya political scene;- we do not have any MR Clean..so don't bother asking any politician his source of wealth or blah blah, its better not to vote.

The critical thing is, before voting for MR. X, what is in it for ME and my country? the voter wields more power and thus more responsibility that the leader being elected.

i will look at track record(read performance in past areas of responsibility) when voting next year..i will not look at tribe factor(i dont eat my tribe and no politician can take or change my ethnicity so it doesnt matter!)

on this scale...Sonko is ahead of most presidential aspirants!..my opinion

Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in the World. If I'm not there, I go to work.

Applause Applause Applause Applause
Well put and Sonko is empowering the youth whether he legislates more laws is upto him.
But on the ground,at least he is bringing some positive impact to his constituents which most of our area MP's dont do.
Currently people are supporting Peter kenneth and evaluating him on how his constituents have benefited from CDF and not how many laws he has passed in parliament.
