I have always asked this question.
Since they cant negotiate for the fee before fighting the fire.
Maybe it's part of their corporate social responsibility.
No its not CSR. They negotiate this and are paid together with other bills. The insurance company refunds this payment when processing claims.
@samsa Good to know this. I also wondered how the private could contribute to a public cause. Say for example, remember UG's Aircraft's that went down in Mt.Ke? A private company tropicairkenya.com were part of the rescue team.
Then of course there are those who just volunteer freely, like some countries have civil air patrol, where the civilian patrol a designated area. Some have volunteer search and rescue from within the working population. E.g. a distress call might come through, the members get alerted, they then stop whatever it was that they were doing at work or business, and they get their gear and head to the site. Many lives have been saved, I knew professional who was such a volunteer. I hope that something like this can sprout in KE - Please inform if there is any. I know of red cross.
Then there is ham radio - a radio frequency that has been reserved for radio hobbyists - globally, which can also be used in emergency situations - without paying a cent. There is a small community in KE
