Nobody has been hanged since 1987 IIRC,but evidence increasingly indicates Western style liberalism isn't for a society such as ours.

Also,I seriously think its time for citizens to have the right of being armed for self defence. Being at the mercy of these beasts is too unfair for a responsible hardworking law abiding mentally competent citizen.
Alas! In Kenya only civil society and parliament make things move so I see no hope in that direction. Honestly, men should be allowed that option.

@alma you are very right but you have the Wazua lynch mob mentality to contend with here so wishing you all the best.

And of course our good journalists are at it again. They claim that the two have been released while they have not been. The court actually only gave them the bail condition of 1M with a surety of the same amount each. They have to meet that before they are released and as at the time of their laughing they had yet met the terms.

For all we know they may have been laughing at the magistrate giving them bail conditions that they knew they could not meet and realising that they are not getting out any time soon.

@Kayoh, are you saying that all normal, educated, and exposed people have decided to follow social rules and that it is the unrefined who need to keep the hangman busy?

Or are you saying that you are shocked that some people are not as conformist as you are, and that non conformity ought to be punished with death?

Curiously, it was the non conformist Cain, who killed the good man Abel.

Why didn't Moses make matters more convinient for us?

It cannot be argued that Killing murderers, robbers and homosexuals acts as a deterrent. Otherwise all those years of lynching and stoning would have borne the Kingdom of heaven. But as far as the quest for the perfect society is concerned, the Christian will run to the lynched Christ, and venerate the martyr.

Surely, to hide behind 'conformity', 'justice' and 'morality' when 'punishing' others is to delude oneself. Little wonder there are rumors that even the Chinese are growing tired of their executions. Or that the Kenyan prisons are training grounds for more criminal activity. Do you remember the prison warder who was found with rolls of bhang intended for the prison market?

Enlightenment does not engender conformity, it gives forth authentic action. But fear breeds conformity. So to demand that a government should rule using fear is to denigrate humanity. Or rather, it is to be contemptuous of one's self.

And why shouldn't the self contemptuous person- like you @kayoh, not face capital punishment?

@Tycho, Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you .
1. We chose to follow the Western style and philosophy of justice. It is not the only one and it is not the best. Elsewhere there is less crime than in "liberal" USA, look at the middle East and Asia there are less per capita persons serving jail than in the land of Uncle Sam.
@Alma, our drafters of the new law assumed wrongly that the previous law was targeted towards political activists hence relaxing the bail conditions as well as police powers ending up with a system that is inclined to favour suspects against victims.
2. Even in the US and Europe, where we copy and paste, they have very criminal stringent laws that are more sympathetic to victims of crime than suspects of crime. No wonder the US retains the death sentence todate.

@Rahatupu, I am having trouble with understanding 'We chose Western philosophy. . . there are alternatives'. The 'we' is a major problem in the sense that it denotes the whole of humanity. To say it means 'African' brings more problems.

Can a philosophy be chosen? And when is it chosen? What kind of person would choose a philosophy?

To say that a philosophy can be chosen is to imply that there is something higher than philosophy, or rather, philosophy is devoid of being. This is death. This is not philosophy.

Crime is an unwanted product of the social system. Can a perfect system be created? Even Moses knew that he could not flatter himself.

Is the governor aware that the person about to be hanged is himself? Is he aware that he is the problem as he is the solution?

Moses, Confucius, and Mohammed had their turns in answering these questions but now it's my turn. Your turn.

@tycho what is the solution then?
- Crime
- Drug abuse
- Prostitution and excess women
- etc
