In its report about uchumi, the govt said it was holding on in order to reap dividends...i wouldnt be surprised if they announce a dividend since the govt is a major shareholder...i think this is what is pushing the price up...a paltry dividend or zero dividend will see the price dip A successful man is not he who gets the best, it is he who makes the best from what he gets.

Uchumi Supermarket has reported a 21.7 per cent drop in before tax profit. The retail chain on Tuesday said before tax profit stood at Sh403 million in the year to June compared to Sh515 million a year earlier. The firm did not declare a dividend, but analysts report developed with the input of the management indicate that Uchumi is likely to pay a dividend next year. http://www.businessdaily.../-/x4auy1z/-/index.html

I'm looking at today's paper and the board has recommended for approval a first and final dividend of 0.30 per share. Register will be closed on 8 Jan. 2013

Things are not that bad. The gross profit actually grew by almost 900 Million but was eaten up by operational costs (Please read opening of 5 new branches = investment) ASK concludes :The Expansion has crimped Profits a Little but looking through the Headline Numbers This is a Company that has been tidied up, rehabilitated, resurrected and repositioned for Growth. They also have unhindered Access to the Capital Markets unlike Nakumatt who have Challenges in that Regard. Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

@Pesa Nane, we have no doubt that the top line will grow again this financial year by about 30% to KES 18 B Link on top line growth projectionHowever, if in the latest financial year the bottom line declined by 30% because of opening 6 new branches, what will happen in this financial year where they plan to open 12 new branches

There are no accumulated losses, in fact they have reserves of KES1.3bn. What has made Uchumi not to pay dividends is not the accumulated losses but the cash position, as at end of June they had overdrafts of Kes437M. Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.
