Has anyone watched this movie? Just seen the trailer and it looks really good but people are claiming it is propagating an LGBT agenda. The movie was funded by the German embassy.

I watched the movie and loved it. Its better than all the previous local productions that i have watched. In some scenes it has some deep sheng (they've translated). i did not see anything that would suggested its LGBT driven.

Kenya has for the first time submitted its own candidate for an Oscar award for Best Foreign-Language Film, the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday. "Nairobi Half Life," directed by David "Tosh" Gitonga, will compete with films from 70 other countries for the five nominations in this category. http://www.nation.co.ke/.../-/dp8e3jz/-/index.html

I watched the movie. There's a scene where the main character talks about leading a double life. The (gay?) guy he is talking to misinterprets this as an internal am-I-gay-or-not conflict and therefore tries to get cozy with him. The main character immediately rejects the advances, and the story moves on swiftly.
This scene is only about 2 minutes of the entire movie. How does this make the movie be construed as propagating an LGBT agenda? Or did I miss something?

Unfortunately I've had a few... well, maybe alot, but that is not the contentious issue here. Why give men, women's names? Do they consider the consequences? Is their anger and hurt justified? Isn't this grievous psychological harm on a child, irrespective of what happened to the mother? Do two wrongs make a right?

I will not open any of the links because its all hogwash. The man is called Joseph, Samuel etc but he prides to have his mothers name as his second name. Just to honor the mother. Africans have had a different naming culture from the west and there is nothing wrong with it. This atttude that was introduced by the west insinuating that anything African is evil is just wrong. We are all unique and in humanity, there's no "one fits all solution" and am so glad its not that way otherwise life would be very boring. For instant are you silent? And if you are, then where is the silence? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The problem is you hope when you should fear & fear when you should hope: - Jesse Livermore .

Hogwash, is it? You might have a case against the west, however a new born might have little or any say about its name. I highly doubt a youngster tormented by his peers about his name, would want to see things your way. Nor would a man emotionally traumatized. The one thing that the man is reminded, everytime his feminine name is mentioned, is that his mother has sex out of wedlock (God forbid it was rape) and chose to remind him and the world, every day of his life! And whats more, such a parent is bound to be bitter at men, would probably keep the child away from his father or any father-figure. Question, once this Nairobi Half-life star blows up, will it be a case of 'same script different cast' with Wanjiru?

Question, once this Nairobi Half-life star blows up, will it be a case of 'same script different cast' with Wanjiru? You must have undergone a really bad childhood if you were not a bully in sch. You fail to understand that your name can have a totally different meaning to another set of people. There is a soviet band called KINO, ofcourse you'd never buy its music. What are u? a test-tube baby? Who was not born of a woman? How sure are u that the man u call your dad indeed is your father? Many men shoot blanks and women out of love go out to get eggs so as to cover their mans shame, so how sure are u that you aint one of them? Truth is many men are liars and deserters. Walk around in Kenya and you will come across so many men who impregnated young girls with the promise to marry them but did not. Others could not handle a woman and a child and they just walked away and vanished on realizing that she is pregnant. Does that man have any right to be called a parent? Its even worse if you are to name your child after him, the lady might just end up hating his kid. You need to respect every single parent because relationships are not guaranteed. Thank God you had a constant father figure in your life, and don't look at others like trash, children born out of infidelity. I know so many men who took up their mothers name and are a big success. Afterall, there mothers brought them up, would u rather they were named after a man they had never seen? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. But you speak volumes about what your mother did. Not to personalize this, let her name him after her father or grandfather or a man who's character she admires. And more importantly stop getting children out of wedlock!

No they don't and their are you making it right by blaming the mother of the kids you sired and don't know from naming them after themselves because you don't care whether they eat or not. OOh and for your info' they may suffer from psychological harm but they are better than living with a man who is just trousers.

Let people use whichever name they like. btw, it depends on where you come from. for example; the name CHEPKWONY means that the child belongs to a mother married by a gogo in kalenjin. Am yet to hear of any complaint that they should not use the name chepkwony. In kikuyu, one is always named after a relative (the middle name) and the surname always belongs to the parent. e.g. Samuel Kamau Wanjiru has a choice to say samuel kamau.
