You all sound single. Anyone with a family? I don't know whether you'd fit a family in a 15k house and I'm talking of locations that are not too inconveniencing for work and school for the kids.

Not unless am in the wrong club, i grew up in a city slum where a room of 3.5m by 4m was shared as the kitchen, bedroom, living etc.
Am now in a 2b/r very spacious flat in roysambu. 100k rent is a NO for me. Hiyo ni ploti Ruai Laughing out loudly

@2012, There are locations out there you get 2-3 bed-roomed houses for less than 15k,the kids go to school and parents get working.

I believe the question was how much is too much when it comes to rent.

I'm not disputing, it's just that I saw many quoting around 15. Anyway which locations can you get a 3bedroom for 20k and under?

Kanyotu (Muthaiga) Estate, Kerugoya. 8k for 3 bedroom master en-suite.

Nairobi, not machinani.

Rent should not be more than 30% of your net income. That said i always wonder how much people earn coz all rental properties, even in upmarket areas charging over 200k pm have tenants.

...boss kuna watu wanazo,if someone can take 2m plus a month,200k rent a month is nothing.

During 2007 PEV , it became apparent that you may need to consider locations where there is security or open multiple escape routes from the city or vicinity to to an airport and access to supplies whilst avoiding the CBD. Areas around or near to JKIA,wilson or oryx airport(Kajiado) , near or around Thika/Msa rd come to mind

Those percentages of one's salary are misleading.what for instance is the correct percentage for a couple living together and sharing expenditure or an officer manning a public kitty e.g District Accountant who rakes in 15k lunch daily from clients?
