They should have also develop some I Million shillings houses which would have been been more affordable. Most employees get some form of benefit that come with their jobs. For these guys, one of their benefits is the 5% interest rate on their mortgage. How many of us on leaving campus wanted to work for Govt.?? Your guess is as good as mine, so why are we complaining now when things seem to be looking up for those in the civil service? 1) No country became sustainably great based on working for the government. China's ascent started in 1979 AFTER the liberalization [encouragement of the private sector] not due to government jobs or largesse. 2) The civil service in Kenya is too large a % of the total workforce leading to inefficiencies & fiefdoms. The recurrent expenditure out-weighs development expenditure. The latter provides sustainable growth. 3) The self-employed taxpayer NOT the civil servant is the ultimate taxpayer in an economy like Kenya. Kenya has few extractive industries so the 'real income' is from the self-employed esp farmers. Everything else is a derivative. 4) Most civil servants are NOT as hard-working as the self-employed. They open at 9am & close at 5pm. To serve my customers, I will work over lunch, open early & almost always work beyond 5pm. I do not expect a pension, no subsidies, pay VAT, withholding tax, etc. My side hustle is my main hustle. My sick days means no income. My vacation days means no income. My time spent queuing at government offices since the (un)civil 'servant' is having tea, talking on the phone or gossiping means no income. . There are so many organizations that offer their employees subsidized benefits top among them banks. Aren't bank employees some of the very few who access the cheapest loans in this country- gets to 5% p.a without security. Who complains??? When its the civil sufferers then it's oh this and that.....

The problem with cheap things is that they are cheap and people never get around to valuing them. This will be an interesting place to look at now then compare after 10 years, see how many broken windows get repaired, see how many potholes get fixed, see if people still value the property for what it's worth. If the right people get in, the value will appreciate if the wrong people get in the value will depreciate regardless of the location.

@Rahatupu, You see, those organisations don't bother me with extra tax burden. They figure out how to go about, if i find their products/services expenses, i have the option of keeping off. With the gov't/civil servants, they cheat us,they don't value us, we are a bother to them. I on the other side, i treasure my clients,i treat them with respect and i skip meals so as to keep them satisfied. What will stop me from cutting corners to keep some cents away from this gov't's hands, if i feel they are stealing from me to reward mediocracy

I read allocation was done way back in June LinkAnd what is the amount of benefit they are getting on the lower interest: Monthly installment of KES 3.2M at 5% interest - KES 22,497.08 Monthly installment of KES 3.2M at 18% interest - KES 50,006.13 Benefit; 50,006.13 - 22,497.08 = 27,509.05 (KES 5,941,954.80 savings over the 18 years) All given to them courtesy of our tax payment

Look we have no beef about civil servants getting houses, but using our taxes to subsidize them so that they 'feel' like bankers is daft of the government. Let's face it, our civil servants are a lazy lot who would struggle to work in private sector. Most of them is no fault of their own but the culture and organizational structure of their various units. They are overstaffed, poorly resourced and poorly positioned.
I however would have loved it these houses were reserved for our policemen, prison warders, teachers and soldiers. These lot especially the police and warders live in abject squalor and have to resort to collecting bribes daily to live half decent lives. It's useless and nonsensical for the same government to pretend to house overemployed and poor producing civil servants yet the same government's policemen and warders live in worse conditions than some dogs and horses in Karen!

This negative attitude towards our civil servants need to com t o an end . The last time I checked into a govt office I did not find daft , lazy Kenyan as some of you have shamelessly put it here . There is nothing wrong with an employee benefiting from his employer . Peace be with you
