I know how much you pay in rent depends on your income and status but no matter how much you earn there's just a figure you'll feel pain parting with to enrich someone else. What's that figure for you? BBI will solve it :)

If rent falls anywhere near a mortgage figure, I'd rather take mortgage.

12k. Around 6.5% of my current gross. Why so mean? To cover the 3-4 months i will be contractless. Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.” ― Rashi

I sometimes cringe with awe when friends or collegues tell me they are paying upwards of 70k amonth (840 k p.a)in those floating houses of kilimani/westlands/kile etc. Unless you are in stable bizna,or other investments earning handsome income. That said i pay mortgage in eastlands and is set to collect some little rent from the extensions in the property. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

It should be how much is acceptable at different situations. Like @wanyee for example, you may have property in places you do not live, so that means you have to pay rent wherever you are. And if you can afford 100K, why not? Your businesses may be financing your expenditure.

You all sound single. Anyone with a family? I don't know whether you'd fit a family in a 15k house and I'm talking of locations that are not too inconveniencing for work and school for the kids. BBI will solve it :)

Didn't you know there are some people paying as low as 8K for two bedroom flat in Nbi, radius of 5km from CBD? ask around.

Rent should not be more than 30% of your net income. That said i always wonder how much people earn coz all rental properties, even in upmarket areas charging over 200k pm have tenants.

I believe the question was how much is too much when it comes to rent.

I'm not disputing, it's just that I saw many quoting around 15. Anyway which locations can you get a 3bedroom for 20k and under? BBI will solve it :)
